    Suppliers Comparison Pricing List

I started this on Facebook in its own group because there were lots of people in a colorant group noting they didn't know who had the best prices on what. Trying to compare was a good price on one product was getting lost in translation because one person was looking at deodorized organic cocoa...

Didn't really know what I was doing...

I guess it worked out. Drop swirl pour. The FB group I posted it in seems to like it. Kind of surprised at the amount of feedback i got on it.

Would any of these profiles jump out at you?

I've been tinkering with recipes for a few weeks since moving from Phoenix, AZ to Rockport, TX. Now have myself a source of natural saltwater, if I get around to using it. I put together this spreadsheet showing a baker's dozen soap profiles I dreamed up. All are running 90% NaOH and 10% KOH...

Was going for interior gold accents....

I wanted to get some gold accents on a drop swirl (is this what it's called?) for a Christmas color bar done with AZ Soap Supplies Autumn Wreath FO. I didn't use too much gold as I didn't want to waste the mica if it didn't work. Turned out pretty darn okay for a first shot. I put in a second...

My first soap worth looking at.

38th batch since I've started doing this back in late August, including different soap dough recipes and total failures that went into the trash. Made this for a friend at work who likes Downy fabric softener smell and just had a baby this past spring. Second attempt at this kind of design and...

    Jewelweed in PT soap

One month of soaping, and it's a fun little journey so far. Whipped up 17 different batches and 2 or 3 have really been supremely inspiring in developing...new and creative combinations of profanity. Mostly that has been due to FO's not behaving like reviews said they would, not having an...

What is going on in these bars?

Are the lighter sort of horizontal lines glycerin rivers? Recipe is 50% lard, 25% RBO, 20 CO, 5% Caster. 5% superfat, 1 tsp of salt PPO as a hardener. FO is Vanilla Lavender from Bulk Apothecary. Black Oyster and Snow White from Mad Micas. The gold pencil lines didn't turn out worth a...

    How much salt until crumbly?

Curiosity more than anything, but how much salt can you add to a batch based on PPO until it starts to be required to cut within a few hours? I know it is less than 20% for sure as I dealt with that amount last week.

    Woohoo! Newbie milestone!

Tried a new recipe tonight, nothing extravagant. OO, Castor, Shea, Coconut with a 10%SF due to a high coconut %. I wanted to do an apricot/peach because I love fruity scents. Always have. Read the review we have here in the FO review sheet. It says to keep it simple. No problem, I'll just...

Is it worth adding FO if....

After reading some notes here on how much better soap gets with age, I thought it would be neat to make a few batches for long term storage. One Castille batch, and maybe a few of my own concoctions with EDTA added to ensure DOS doesn't drop in to poop on my soap party. I was thinking of...

    Vacuum chamber to speed curing?

Has anyone ever tried using a vacuum chamber to speed curing on a CP soap? I'm curious because I have a 15 gallon vacuum chamber sitting under the table where I have my bars curing right now. If no one has tried it I'll put a few bars of each in there and see what happens. It might be...

My Cousins Vinny and Sal (butter)

Tinkering around tonight. For some reason known only to the me that existed at the time I was shopping, I picked up a pound of Sal/Shorea butter a few weeks back. I can't seem to find too much about it. I swear I read it's good for oily skin, but I've slept since then as well. Anyone know...

    How would this recipe fare?

I've been trying to read and watch a lot of tutorials and such and put together this little guy tonight. Maybe a little on the soft side with stearic/palmitic coming in at 28, but if I understand correctly adding 1 tsp of sodium lactate per pound of oils will solidify the little feller right...

    First Batch in the mold!

Well, I did my first soap batch in the history of history tonight. I thought I had ordered three molds, but I only got two so I had to use a rectangular individual 12 bar for it. I made Zany's ever-popular no-slime Castille because I wanted something really simple to cut my teeth on as far as...

Got a little order in today...

I might've gone a bit overboard when deciding what samples I wanted to buy to play around with... I really should've put on gloves when I was unpacking them from the shipping bubble wrap. Fingers smell like vanilla, a bit of banana, fabric softener, and a floral I can't quite nail down...

    Recipe for the strongest cleansing/degreasing?

One of the types of soap I want to make are for my dad and stepmom who are eternally playing with our boats and farm machines and lawn equipment. I'd like to make them something that is really strong in the degreasing department, or as strong as we can make without adding petrochem...

How do you personally add yogurt/milk into Soapmaker 3?

I'm tinkering around with the program and there's really no place to enter the yogurt or milk unless you drop it in as a new Misc ingredient and then enter it into the recipe in additives. Since I'm adding the yogurt into the oils prior to blending with the lye water (and substituting half...

    Howdy

Just starting off in this. In a weird way, catfish soap bait got me first interested in soap making when I was a kid. I always wanted to make it, but no one knew a recipe for it. Texas Fish and Game magazine ran a recipe for it once when I was about 8 or 9, so probably very early 80's...
