    Share your favourite recipe

Here's my favorite go to recipe. 30% olive oil 30% lard 30% coconut oil 10% castor oil Choose what size batch you want and run it through soap calc to get the water and lye amounts. I usually superfat at 7% or thereabouts. I've played with a lot of recipes, but this one is by far...

    cold process soap question

Hi fladais. If you calculate your recipe correctly there should be no lye left in your soap. If there is lye left, you have lye heavy soap that isn't usable. Check the recipe sections or go to Kathy Miller's site, which you can google for. Alway run any recipe through a lye calculator, of...

    Super soft soap...help wanted!

I used this mixture to make soap with last December and no problems. There was a film on top that I broke up and mixed in a bit, but not thoroughly. That's probably the problem. As for disposing of the lye solution, sodium hydroxide is drain cleaner. If I dilute it and then pour a bit...

    Super soft soap...help wanted!

Well, now I know not to put soft cut soap in the oven, it MELTS! I glopped it back into the mold and put it back into the oven. It looked like CPHP does when it's done and ready to go into the mold. Hopefully, a little time in the oven will help. It is soap. No zap and my hands feel...

    Super soft soap...help wanted!

Could very well be that the lye wasn't as potent anymore, Ian. That hadn't really crossed my mind. It's in a clear/frosted plastic jug on the top of my refrigerator. I've decided to get rid of the rest of it. Now I need to dispose of it. I had read that it can be diluted and rinsed down...

    Super soft soap...help wanted!

I hadn't soaped in months and yesterday the spirit moved me. DH has been grousing about being made to use manly scented soap, and he prefers unscented. So. I made my usual recipe using masterbatched lye water that's been around for several months. I mixed it up before measuring it out and...

What is everyone making this weekend?

I haven't soaped at all for the last several months, don't know why, just wasn't motivated. DH has been grousing that he's out of PlainJane and has had to use manly scented soap. He much prefers unscented. Anyway, I've had my new TOG molds sitting here for a coupla months, just waiting...

    Girlfriend Still Buys Soap

Dump her!!! No, really just kidding. :? I'd make her some soap with her absolute favorite fragrance and wrap it with a pretty little bow or some such and give it to her along with her Valentine's present. You'd have just about the right amount of time for it to cure properly. If you wanna...

    DOS?

They are ugly! No, really. Strangely enough, every batch I've made with lard has gotten dos. I'm done with lard!

    My new wrapping machine!

What a sweet hubby you have! Now, where's the pics?!?!?!? ETA: I checked out the website for National Shrinkwrap and watched the tutorial for wrapping soap. OMG! That's so totally awesome. You have one very excellent hubby!!!

    When do you add milk?

I SB'd my GM concentrate into my oils prior to adding the lye mixture the last time I made milk soap. No crazy scorching or orange color. I used RT lye mixture, too. I guess you'd say chilled lye mixture, as the room temp was in the high sixties. My newest GM soap came out a beautiful...

    Everyone give Paul a hug!

Wow, I've been off the net for a couple of days and I miss a bunch! I'm so glad to hear that neither you or Phyllis were not hurt during the storm. I hope things get back to normal for you soon. And your insurance company didn't give you the runaround???? Awesome. :D Lisa

    Digital Scale Needed --

Don't know if http://www.oldwillknottscales.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=264 is the one you saw before, but the scale looks to be perfect for soaping and a good price, too.

I finally know what SOS is all about...LOL

To my way of thinking, the 50% lye solution was diluted to 38% by the GM concentrate when it was added to the oils. Is this wrong? I was going for 38% lye solution, but will try again with much higher liquid. And, no I didn't grind my kosher salt. I've only done 2 test drives, but I didn't...

I finally know what SOS is all about...LOL

Yep, I decided to try a small batch of salt bars, which I've never done. I've read so much about them here that I just couldn't stand it and had to try it out. So I melted my oils, chilled some condensed gm and off I went. I used 1lb of oils: CO 70% Hydro veg 20%...

first soap made in my TOG mold

*swoons* Woodi, those are some gorgeous soaps! I hope I can make something that pretty when I get a little more experience under my belt. I have that mold on the way to me, too. :D

    Poll: Straight verses crinkle?

I voted for the look of crinkle cut soaps, but I really like the looks of both. I, too, am wondering about this super dooper two way cutter! Can't wait to get a look at it. I've not bought a cutter yet, and just ordered my first honest to goodness soap molds from Paul, but a cutter...

Vinegar Rinse for Lye Heavy Laundry Soap

Vinegar does neutralize lye, so I suppose that would work. I use white vinegar as a rinse agent even though I use detergent to wash my laundry. It leaves my clothes nice and soft by neutralizing the minerals, thereby softening the water. It's supposed to help your machine last longer, too...

    What is you signature scent??

Very interesting question. I'd never given thought to a "signature scent". Since you asked, I'd probably say OMH from MillCreek, as that's what my friends/coworkers ask for repeatedly. I'm gonna have to have a little think about what I'd like for a signature scent. Oh, and I don't...
