Just curious how long my homemade soap will last? I'm assuming soap with added items such as vegetables and fruit won't last as long, right? Is there anything I can do to help prolong the life of my soaps?

I heard somewhere that it's ok to double a recipe, but I shouldn't cut it in half. Is that true? That doesn't really make sense to me. Can someone shed a little light on this topic for me?
