Getting full gel is so darn frustrating!!

I just did it with the other soap, before I cut it. Here’s what it turned out to look like. I think I got it! The small egg one didn’t gel but I kind of expected that.... now, to try it with the big mold! Thanks for all your help, and the video suggestion!

Getting full gel is so darn frustrating!!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I looked again today and the corners are now the same intensity in color as the middle. I am about to unmold the soap I made yesterday and had a question, is it possible to cpop sliced soaps? I’m hesitant to put this one in the oven whole and in the silicone...

    Lye source?

I get mine at Lowe’s, but I’m on Oahu. I don’t know if you are in Hilo or Kona, but you can check the Kona Lowe’s or pickup some if you don’t live there and make a trip to go to Costco.

Q? On ambiant weather and humidity

Hi Kathymzr, I’m in Hawaii too, and I think the temps do affect our soaping process. I just posted about getting a lot of partial gel when I don’t insulate, and cracking and volcanoes when I do. I’m a beginner too and I’m still trying to figure out the process. I don’t have any A/C and my...

Getting full gel is so darn frustrating!!

Hello everyone. I’m still trying to get this gel process thing right. I’ve been having some problems. First of all, I live in the tropics, so that means my average temps are in the 80s. I have been having problems getting a full gel soap. I get a lot of partial gel, but never full gel...

    What happened here?

I have, once, and I got a partial gel, but that one cracked while it was solidifying in the mold but I was able to save it by taking it out from under the towels and heating pad and throwing it in the fridge and spraying it with copious amounts to rubbing alcohol and trying to smoosh the crack...

    What happened here?

I put in in the fridge first then in the oven. Lesson learned. The mold was a 42 oz. I have been getting nothing but partial gels with all my molds (even the usps box) when not refrigerated most likely because of my climate (HI). They never revert back. I may try again later on this week...

    What happened here?

I put it in the fridge because I knew it would go super hot (based on the recipe) and get a partial gel. That’s what all my soaps do in this particular mold I used for this batch without any extra additive. I also added simple syrup to make it more bubbly, so I wanted to be sure it didn’t...

    What happened here?

The oven was turned on until preheat on warm then turned off and just left. There was sugar water in the soap blend, however it was 24 hours in the fridge before removing and placing in the warm oven overnight to hopefully gel completely through. Is it completely unusable or unsafe? I’m...

Replacing olive oil with canola oil

I just did the calculations, the Kirkland canola that I’ve been using would be considered mid-oleic based on the calculations in the post.

    What happened here?

I just unmolded my soap, and the texture on the bottom looked like this, with an orange liquid coming out of it. The liquid was peach colored ( I didn’t use any peach colored anything) and it wasn’t lye related, it didn’t burn my skin and or zap the tongue. It was very wet on the bottom but...

Replacing olive oil with canola oil

hello! I was wondering if there is any caveat to completely replacing olive oil in soap with canola oil? I have a recipe that I adjusted in the lye calculator to not use olive oil and use canola instead. From what I read it’s profile in soap is similar to that of olive. Anything I should be...

    Mixing lye indoors or outdoors?

I have no kids at my apartment and I have a very small kitchen. I only make single batches less than 42 oz due to the size of my apartment. I have a a fairly large window that I open, and a fan that I aim in the direction of where I’m mixing my lye mixture (usually on the stove cover cause I...

Mica pencil... no marker line fail!

ugh. I had an epic fail with trying to make a pencil line. I am almost positive that it’s way too thick. I had a big chunk fall off the spoon ( yeah, it’s all I had) when I was trying to sprinkle the mica in the layers. I did make some ridges in the first layer so it wouldn’t be completely...

Soursop ( guarabana) fragrance oil or something like it?

I’ve looked at bb, nature’s garden, and just done a google search for guarabana fo, however when I do the google search, I only find the oil from the seeds. I’m wondering if soakers from other countries like the Philippines or some of the southeast Asian countries may have an idea as the fruit...

Soursop ( guarabana) fragrance oil or something like it?

I know that this is a long shot, but would anyone know if there is such a thing as a guarabana fragrance oil? I had a tree in the back yard, and I’m thinking the green smell of the skin and the sweetness of the fruits flesh might make a decent smelling soap. Has anyone heard of such a thing...

    Dragon fruit powder in soap?

I haven bought any yet, but I saw some while roaming the internet this weekend. The color is so vibrant, but it might not be worth it if it doesn’t stay when used. Here’s the site I saw it on. https://nuts.com/cookingbaking/powders/fruit-powders/dragonfruit.html I figured if bb has pumpkin...
