NYC area soapers want to go in on an oil order?!

We're in Bergen County, but we have a Jeep and can traipse on in to meet you. Eric (beerfish) emailed the company to see if we could get a better shipping rate on a BIG bulk order. That'd be nice!

What's my issue... wicks or wax?

And many, if not all, stoves still have open pilot lights. Pilot light = open flame. Don't kid yourself that it's not. Years ago, the pilot light in the stove at my parents' house went out, and I remember my mother throwing in a match without thinking about it. The gas was still on. My...

LOL! If you put [*img] (without the asterisk) before your image url and [*/img] (again without the asterisk) after the url, you get the image to show.

I know! It was making me hungry last night. Smells like the honey, and looks like food. No chocolate smell, though; we'll have to buy some chocolate essential oil.

Questions about using dark colorants in soap

That's great! I'm trying to do soaps with no artificial scents or colorants, just essential oils and natural colors, so knowing that there are things out there that can be used as color and won't affect the soap is really helpful.

I wanted to say thanks again. This is what the squiggly soap turned out like - completely usable, but weird looking on top: But last night, we modified the recipe to make a honey chocolate soap: And this time didn't cover it or insulate it while it cooled, and this morning it looks...

    Pricing Candles

Those candles are really cute! You could charge over $10 for them, easily, yes, even in this economy. As someone said, people still like to get themselves nice treats, and $10 or $12 is justifiable to people. I won a candle recently in a raffle. Granted, it's MUCH bigger and has dried...

Questions about using dark colorants in soap

Paprika won't make the soap smell like baked chicken or something? It's light enough to let the other scent come through?

castor oil...is it poisionous? Customer is asking me...

This is how I'd heard of castor oil. In old novels, they're always giving it to kids with sick stomachs. I found it in with the laxatives at Walgreens. Honestly, I'd direct the customer to consult with her pharmacist regarding the safety of castor oil. That'd be the easiest way to handle it.

    Liability and giving away soaps

Is anyone here insured as a business selling soap? What types of insurance companies cover this? "By day," I'm a lawyer with legal malpractice insurance, plus I'm a face painter/henna artist with entertainer's insurance. So what does one get as "soap producer/distributer/seller"...

    Squiggles? Need Help.

Yeah, I expected a natural-looking lumpy sort of top, like cake frosting almost. But not like this. I do think it's kinda cool myself, as long as it's still viable soap. Either way, I like to have the one edge all rough and "homemade." Let's see what happens when we cut it. :D
