    Cutting and unmolding

Do you cut your bars at the same time you unmolded them, or do you wait a bit before cutting? I’ve just made *my* most beautiful soap yet and I don’t want to ruin it by cutting too early. Here’s the end of the loaf. It’s my first attempt at hanger swirls.

    Caramelization...?! UPDATE

First time making lye soap yesterday. I was impatient so I sped up trace on the stovetop, on medium heat. Did I mention I was impatient? I unmolded this morning. KOH Potassium hydroxide

Has anyone here successfully made soap with potassium hydroxide rather than sodium hydroxide? Anecdotally I’ve heard it’s what is used for liquid soap and soap paste, but I’ve come across instructions for a hard soap bar using it.

    Wood Ash Soap Bar

I have my first ever batch of soap in a loaf pan, poured 2 days ago. It is still “springy,” what’s the longest you’ve let a batch sit in the mold? I should note that I do not have exact measurements because I used KOH that I made from the ashes from my wood stove, and I reduced the lye water...

Hi thanks for allowing me to join your forums I am a long-time creator, first time soaper. I have enjoyed knitting, spinning, sewing, quilting, canning, dehydrating, baking, and candy making for most of my life. I am interested in self sufficiency, and came upon soap making as such. My first...
