Scenting a beer soap - seeking recommendations

I've used the oatmeal stout from BB and used a stout to make the soap. It smelled like toasted oatmeal to me. The FO behaved well, but I HP so most FOs behave well. My absolute favorite FO for beer soap, and my son's also, was BB Pumpkin Lager. Sadly they don't carry pumpkin lager any longer...

    Back After A Long Break

Several years ago, I lost my original formula notebook in a move. I was able to go into archives and retrieve my scrub recipe and an early lotion I had posted (I believe my first), I think I called it a souffle, lovely but unstable if shipped. I was able to also print off a thread about using...

Hi.. Can anyone tell me if I can use food colouring in my soap

You can but wouldn't recommend it. Food coloring tends to migrate and stain. It's better to use colors formulated specifically for soap and/or natural coloring agents like clay and certain herbs.

    Back After A Long Break

Yello, atlantanurse! Welcome back to soap! Thanks for the kind words. Yup, I took a several years break from making soap and lotions but my skin couldn't handle commercial products so I'm back at it. I know the dish has a facebook page but I don't go over there very often at all because...

    Season Change Soon!

It may still be hot as blazes here in Virginia, as Mobjack said, but the geese have been flying over all this week settling in the fields in the evenings; fall is on its way. I'm thinking of pulling out the spicy heavier scents and start making those in September after I finish up the last few...

    Lavander soap

I don't like straight up lavender EO. So I blend 2 parts lavadin EO with 1 part lavender, french EO. I like that much better and its been well received in my lavender oat goatmilk soap.

    Ideas for cooling bedroom temp

I don't have air conditioning. I installed blackout roller shades on every window in my house. They're great for blocking out the sun and keeping the house cooler. My house is an east/west orientation. So the east facing windows have the shades pulled low in the mornings. Around noon, they...

HP-Adding menthol crystals after the cook?

Finally used the menthol crystals yesterday. I went with 2% ppo. I dissolved the crystals in kukui nut oil. I let the soap cool down some after pulling it out of the oven and then added the menthol/kukui nut oil mixture to the soap. I had very little, what I would call burn off of the...

HP-Adding menthol crystals after the cook?

Im going to try this tomorrow, just too hot in the kitchen this morning to OHP. It's not the "rhino hide" I'm concerned about, its the "lady bits" that I am. I may go as high as 3% since its the middle of recommended usage. See how I feel in the morning. Thanks for the video link.

    Bulk Apothecary -

I've looked at that, grapefruit & mint, but have never ordered from candle science before. I don't always trust on site reviews so its good to hear good things about that one.

    Bulk Apothecary -

Update; I tried both the peach cilantro and the balsamic greens and Grapefruit from BA. Both smelled lovely OOB. Both had a slight green edge; different and nice. However after I soaped with both fragrances, the peach lost the green and smelled just like any other peach out there to me. The...

    Sweet Cakes All Natural Fragrances.

Has anyone tried them in HP soap or tried them at all? I'm interested in two, Mango Sugar Mint and Grapefruit Apricot. SC states good for MP so I'm thinking should work in HP. Thanks

HP-Adding menthol crystals after the cook?

Has anyone tried adding diluted menthol crystals after the cook? I'm thinking that would have less menthol burn off and therefore be able to use a lower percentage of menthol in my soap. I'm looking to enhance the mint coolness factor. I'm thinking of using a lower percentage of menthol...

    Storing Cured Soap

I store my soaps in the $1 plastic shoe boxes I buy at the Wal-mart. Those are stored, stacked, in my bedroom closet. The scents don't mingle; in fact, when I open my closet you wouldn't know I had soaps in there unless you looked on the shelves. My house is not air conditioned and I live in...

    I have a confession .....

Draugr, I'm going down the slippery slope of shaving soap this week. Finally got all my supplies in to start making some.

    Lard soap

Susie, that's very very close to my current formulation. I'm using 60% lard, 20% Olive Oil, 10% coconut Oil and 10% Castor.

    I have a confession .....

True confessions of a soap maker.....I've never beveled my soap (it's round), I don't wear goggles (ruined a couple pairs of glasses that way, so I stopped wearing glasses when I soap). Never have used a thermometer nor a crockpot to make HP. I stopped coloring and swirling soap about 10...

    Lard soap

I HP and have used anywhere from 30-70% lard in my soap over the years. Most people, from what I've seen over the years, tend to use 30-50% lard. You can use it in conjunction with any other oils; the blend depends on what you're seeking in your soap. I'm currently using lard in conjunction...

Shave soap; stearic acid and pine tar

Ok, pine tar is a request from son whom I'm doing this for; he likes my pine tar soap. So with oils and keep percentages low. Ok, keep tar percentage low and add with oils. The pine tar request is from my son; he likes my pine tar soap. I wonder if there's a "pine tar" fragrance out there...
