    Southwest Girl joins SMF

Welcome to the forum! Southwest in your title caught my eye....I just moved away from Aztec a few years ago :D Lived in the Four Corners for nearly 20 years. Beautiful area!

    Galaxy Soap

Thanks everyone :D I wish I could take full credit, but some definitely goes to the original youtuber! Her design, just my execution ;)

    Galaxy Soap

It's a squox! :D My daughter's nickname is Squirrel and my sons is Fox. After I saw that pic, I had to use it somewhere I'd see it over and over again, it's so cute!

    Galaxy Soap

@Clarice I bought them on Amazon. I like that they give almost instant lather (in my hard water). I toss all the teeny slivers in one. The only thing I don't like is when I wash my hands a billion times a day, it stays a little too wet sometimes. The one I keep hanging in the shower with a...

    $/Bar

Well, I guess that's one way to imply my soap lacks quality lol Don't take that the wrong way, I'm not offended, just amused. This is a thread addressing amateurs and I am an amateur after all. I don't claim that my recipe is the best it will ever be. I have a balanced recipe that my skin is...

    Galaxy Soap

The only thing I can think is to shred/chop white soap and use it as a confetti in the black, but I don't think it would give the same look at all. The design still looks great even after the stars wash away :) Mostly just making the soap dough ahead of time. I found it was much easier to work...

    Galaxy Soap

Don't mind at all @Primrose :) Yes, its TD (the kind you mix with water) mixed with a little rubbing alcohol. I dipped a toothbrush in the mixture and ran my finger over the bristles. There's a part 3 to the video I linked in the first post. For some reason it doesn't show up on the side when...

    Galaxy Soap

Take note on how much colorant I used and back WAY off lol The bleeding is worse now than what I posted before. It's a good thing it looks & smells amazing, otherwise it would be shredded up and turned into confetti :D

Difference in trace time Pomace Olive vs Olive

Do you mean you got pomace to trace with 2 minutes of stick blending? If so, yes, that sounds perfectly normal to me. I generally stick blend for 15-30 seconds, just until emulsion and only a little more as needed for mixing colors or getting a THICK trace for a design. I use 30% pomace. In...

    Major seizing/acceleration

I was thinking the same thing. Pomace moves fast, but I don't think it would cause the issues described (especially the batch turning orange).

    $/Bar

I just hit the 3 month mark so I can reply here! :D I do calculate the cost of my recipes (keep an excel file with a materials price list and a sheet for each recipe that calculates the cost). My current favorite recipe is at 70 cents per 4.5-4.9 oz bar. This includes generic $32/lb FO and...

    Drying Cold Process Soap!

Sodium citrate (or citric acid) and I believe EDTA are more common ones. They help bind the minerals in hard water. Soaps lather better and have less scum. I'm not sure on the science behind it, but hard water can you leave you irritated/itchy too (not sure if its the water alone, or as it...

    Advice on soap bags, please?

I tried the sisal bags and absolutely hated them. They don't lather (worse than using the bar alone), the soap doesn't dry well and the sisal is pretty rough. I was pretty disappointed because I was trying to find a synthetic alternative. I've since gone back to the mesh soap savers like these...

    Drying Cold Process Soap!

Do you have hard water? Have you tried any chelators? What is the lowest coconut you have tried? One of my favorite soaps for hands and body is Genny's Shampoo Bar (coconut free). I think its great for skin sensitive to dryness (like mine, although I don't get scaly and cracked skin, just...

    Bits of stuff in soap

I'm firmly in the "no bits of stuff in soap" camp. Sometimes the soaps with flower buds/petals on top are kind of pretty, but I'd never use them. Soaps with whole pumpkin seeds and oats on top? Let's just say I prefer my granola in a bowl in the kitchen, not on my shower floor :D And I don't...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Thanks :) The blue & green weren't quite the shades I was going for, guess I'm going to have to make more soap :D Ha, neatness! You should have seen what it looked like after I moved them to the cutting board that I forgot lol (they're too floppy without a solid surface underneath). I won't...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Very nice, the colors and fragrance are a perfect combo! Today I prepped a few batches for next week (testing silk, no castor, and kaolin clay in 3 small batches of my favorite recipe). I also made a 2lb batch of soap dough.
