    Guest Amenities Packaging

I finally finished the guest amenities for our Airbnb. Along with the soaps and such - I created a menu for them if they choose to purchase anything. Travel size soap packaging

So the whole reason I got into soaping - was to provide a “better soap” to our Airbnb guests when they stay in our unit. My sister has 2 Airbnb’s, and my brother has 3 - so I could provide theirs as well. I was having trouble determining a size and appropriate packaging. Too small and they...

    First time with diagonal layers

I decided to try my hand at a diagonal layer effect for the Pink Mojito Soap! It was pretty simple to do actually. Hardest part is dividing the oils and the lye water before you blend each color. That way I could let the first layer set before I poured the second layer. I didn’t take the batter...

    Recent soaps

I've been trying to get stock levels back up since fulfilling a decent sized wholesale order. I committed to making at least a loaf a day but ordered oils and lyenso I can up that to 2 or 3 a day for the next week or so. Here are the new soaps. They are simpler than prior soaps since the plain...

    My new packaging

Here is my new packaging. Id appreciate any feedback. I wanted something that protected the soap that was a bit more eco-friendly than shrink wrap. The fragrance still comes through the paper which is good!

    Purple Lilac Soap

First time making a soap with purple in it. I’ve read that purple is a tough one and may tend to head toward the gray(ish) end of purple. I’m not sure if this will fade/morph as it cures but for right now - it’s pretty purple. I also added TD to the purple base to make it look more creamy...

    Split Pea and Ham Soup

Our local Aldi has their glazed hams half priced so we picked up several of them for a great price - 13 lb for $11.00. We’ve had several meals out of the one we didn’t freeze and now it’s time for soup with the left over meat and bone! It’s so yummy and perfect for a rainy dreary day...

    Confetti Soap

Here is my first attempt at Confetti Soap. I was a bit worried it would - a. Darken up since I used some fragrance oils in my blend that darken to tan/brown. And b. Give me glycerin rivers since I always seem to get that with TD. It didn’t do it this time. I mixed TD into Fragrance Oil and then...

    Milk/salt bath

looking to try a milk/salt bath. 2 questions- Does type of powdered milk matter? I’ve got whole cows milk powder on hand. Is one as good as another? How do I figure FO ratio? Is it as simple as just doing a smell test? In a tub it will be very diluted so not sure suggested ratio from...

    Going down the rabbit hole

It’s officially 2019 and I thought it would be fun to see/hear/listen/read to other soapers guilty pleasures regarding soaping. I know we all have those site we go to for inspiration, killing time, learn, whatever... For me, one of the first sites I found was Ariene Arsenault. I find her to be...

    First time with kelp

Today I made my first batch of soap using kelp harvested by my sister near her home in Maine. Since the fragrance oil indicated that there would be a color shift - I decided to take advantage of it and add a layer of charcoal ( enough for gray - not black). I used 1 tsp of kelp per pound of...

    Kelp wuestikn

Does using kelp in soap cause a problem with acceleration? I was thinking because it’s salt content it might trace more quickly. Also - I am planning on 1 tbls/pound...is that too much? Or about right? It’s super finely ground - almost like flour.

What should I call this soap?

Not sure where to post this so feel free to move if necessary! I made this soap THINKING it would be good colors. The fragrance is Bergamot and Honey and I was going for green ( bergamot) and Orange-ish (honey). The result looks good but doesn’t match fragrance. Any thoughts on a name for this?

    Cocoa,Shea,Mango combination?

I found a combination of Cocoa, Shea, and Mango butters on amazon for a pretty good price. I use all of these ingredients in my sugar scrubs. Question - has anyone tried this or similar blends? It’s 50% Cocoa, 25% each of Shea and Mango. Link...

    How to you prevent gel??

I made my first batch of soap with 40% tallow, 25% CO, 25% olive oil, 5% castor, 5% Shea butter, 33% water/lye. After mixing I put it in the freezer to prevent gel phase because I wanted a creamy white soap. No cover, no towel wrap. Pine box mold. It still partially gelled. Any thoughts? No...

    Emulsified sugar scrub recipe

I found this recipe online and was wondering if those with experience think that it is a good/decent beginner recipe to try. I have seen recipes that have lots of different oils and was looking for a basic recipe to learn on. I was going to substitute jojoba oil/olive oil/coconut oil for the...

    Sugar scrub size

i am making sugar scrubs and I can’t decide on what size of packaging to use. I’m leaning toward 8 ounce wide mouth jars but I’ve seen many that are 6 ounce and 12 ounce. Thoughts?

    Fragrance oils in sugar scrubs

probably a stupid question....how can I tell which fragrance oils are safe for use on the skin? I don’t want to use something that will cause a reaction. I’ve looked online but can’t find an answer. Please and thanks!
