Um? My apple soap is naughty.

When I cut this I wasn’t too happy about the general shape but I was amazed at how well I place the seeds. Until my husband saw it… Should I call it Forbidden Fruit?

Researching ingredients and a green tea cleansing oil recipe

Apologies in advance, this is a long post. Normally there is more info on the web than I want or need about ingredients. I like to do research before I add an ingredient to a product I plan to sell because I want to make sure it is in line with my personal values. I am not a "natural" maker and...

    My Christmas Soaps

Well this is my 3rd year making and selling soaps. Here’s my Christmas/Winter line. Autumn Fig (BB) is a really good seller again, that’s in the one with purple, teal drop swirl. I added cranberry fig (BB) and it’s been popular too. It’s the first one, layers of “hills.”

making washing soda from baking soda/homemade laundry detergent, Wild fires in the US

First, I'm not personally in any danger. But I live in the Willamette Valley of Oregon in the US 25 miles from a nasty wild fire. Our air quality has been rated hazardous for 4 (I think) days now. We are trying to avoid going outside. I usually use 1 part washing soda and 1 part borax to wash my...

homemade distilled water not worth it?

I have a juice steamer that can be used to make distilled water. It's a really cook gadget that I use to make Concord grape juice. Anyway, after 2 hours I have concluded that it probably is costing me too much in electricity to be worth it. I might have gotten a liter in 2 hours. So once I've...

    Body Oil

We have our body butter formula down pretty good and it's a good seller. I have a face serum that sells really well. My shampoo bars sold out and I'm on round 2 of those. Still need to work on conditioner bar and a clarifying shampoo bar. My husband made "massage oils" last year and they were...

    Aquamarine marble horizontal cut method

Melt and pour (clear) embeds dusted in gold mica, gold mica lines, then cut horizontal like a Taiwan swirl. Bit tricky to get the mica lines at the right level for cutting. I’m going to try it again with more mica lines and do a rose quartz version. This one is fragranced with crafters choice...

    Soap dough

Third time is the charm. I made my 3rd batch of soap dough using Soaping 101s recipe (see link below). It is vegan. I really like it. Just wanted to share. I poured my batter directly into ziploc bags after mixing in micas. I think that works best for keeping the air out.

Craftybase special 40% off first 6 months

Hey all! I just got an email about a special for crafty base inventory and expense program. This is a good deal. It is a good program. Just thought I'd spread the word. I'm sure there are some folks that have been on the fence and this seems like a good time for ya. Also you can enter all your...

It’s been that kind of day

So I was working on shave soap and ended up with this. Just wanted to say this is my best soap disaster yet. It’s what comes from trying to do too much as once. Hope everyone else is having a great summer. With my kids home from school, I haven’t been able to share much.

    Mother’s Day Gift Sets

I only put together 10 total for a small Popup Market I’m at this Friday and Saturday. I have not yet tried the cardboard tubes for chapstick and lotion bars. I’m pretty convinced they won’t work for chapstick but will try. I have hopes for lotion sticks. Hope everyone is having fun with their...

    Cardboard lip balm tubes

I went ahead and shelled out 15 bucks to get a sample box of paper balm tubes from Benny’s Balms (Etsy). I’ll report back in a week or so how well they hold up to the pocket and car test. Am hopeful but guarded.

    Organic mct oil at Costco

Found this in my Costco. It’s an Oregon based co and I’m in Oregon so I don’t know if this is just a regional item.

    Soap types

I’m still working out a sea salt bar recipe that makes me happy. I really like less than 50% of the oil weight. 30-25%. Is there a written “rule” for sea salt spa bar ratios. I’m guessing there are no soap police out there and it’s like the Wild Wild West. I’ve noticed that commercial Castile...

I’m the worst housekeeper but maybe these will help get the kids interested in keeping the toilets clean. I’ve always thought that master bathrooms are...

    Beveler planer

https://www.etsy.com/listing/160228138/the-original-soap-planer-and-beveler?ref=shop_home_active_3&crt=1 Bought this soap planer and beveler and I believe it is worth every penny. Bumpy soap was driving me nuts. So now between one of Buds cutters and this, I’m set!

    Melting palm oil

Hey fellow newbies. I wanted to share that I had bought a gallon bucket of palm oil from a local supplier and when I picked it up I asked about melting it down and was told no need. Fast forward to a few recipes into this bucket and I’m definitely having to wait 2 days to unmold from my loaf...
