    tallow/lard mix, crazy slow trace?

It's funny that I should find this post right now. I just made my first soap with tallow a week ago (65% tallow. I don't have the other oil % on hand). Typically, my soap sets up within 10 mins and I wanted to try to do a frosting, so I mixed it by hand for the first time. My idea was I'll get...

How to get a super long lasting bar without palm, lard, or tallow?

https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/palm-oil-sustainable-certified-plantations-orangutans-indonesia-southeast-asia-greenwashing-purdue-a8674681.html All palm has a detrimental impact on the environment, so I won't use that. I don't feel morally opposed to using tallow or lard because...

A question about dividers in a slab.

Hi, I'm thinking of getting/building dividers because cutting soap is just not something I enjoy. So I figure dividers might work. The matter of design worries me. I looked around on the forums and one person did mention it pulling the design down. How is this avoided? Waiting until it sets up...

    This is addicting

It absolutely is so addicting. I've made probably 50 different recipes, tweaking slightly and recording all the data. Make sure you're doing that so you know what works and can looklback. I finally think I have the perfect recipe, but I'll probably change that too at some point, hence why I...

Best methods for making speckles or "complex" coloring in soap?

Ah, you're right. I got that pic from Google. I didn't even think to check the ingredients. It says it contains verbena leaf, which a quick search shows that it creates marks like that.

Best methods for making speckles or "complex" coloring in soap?

I've used various clays which seem to evenly color the soap. I've also tried poppy seeds which do a FANTASTIC job of making little black dots. It would look great in a kiwi soap. But what options are there for lighter speckles? I read that rosehip powder makes like red speckles. How would you...

What are your favorite additives to put in soap?

These are all interesting ideas I'll have to try. EDTA sounds awesome. Anything to cut down on that annoying soap scum. :shakinghead: Thanks for all the details, IrishLass.

    Central FL soaper checking in!

Forums like this confuse me because you need to remember who said what in order to understand what's going on, whereas on Reddit, you can see the replies in a chain. It's just something to get used to, I suppose! It's definitely easier to find things in this format. :) Thanks for the welcome!

    Central FL soaper checking in!

Hey guys, I'm new to posting on this forum, but I'm not new to cold process or just reading the forum. I first read about the forum on Reddit, where the soap community is not very active. I was hesitant to read an "old-school" type of forum, but I'm glad I ventured over here. Anything I Google...

What are your favorite additives to put in soap?

By additives, I mean things like sodium lactate, silk, glycerin, etc. Things that change the physical properties such as texture and hardness. I have made mostly plain soap (with clays and organic things like that) oils+lye solution + colorant+ fragrance, but I would like to try other, more...
