Sweet Almond 9.82% Castor 3.51% Coconut oil 24.56% Meadowfoam oil 4.91% Olive 26.2% Palm 26% Cocoa butter 5% Do you think I can just increase my sweet almond by 4.91% or is there onother cost effective oil I can...

Freezer vs. Gel re: hardness of soap

I think it makes for a softer bar initially but in the long run I don’t think there is a difference. I would go for the long end of drying time. I HATE partial gel which is why I don’t gel.

    Water discount

one more time.......because I am thick skulled. IF I choose to water discount........I run my recipe through the lye calculator of my choice...........then, by hand, calculate the discount. I can’t make an adjustment in the calculator for the water discount like I can with superfat? Who water...

    Tea Tree oil

do you think tea tree essential oil looses its potency over time? I was given a large bottle. The bottle is brown. It smells appropriate.

    Non-geller

i prefer to not gel my soap. I have always put it in the frig to gel. Yesterday I put it in the freezer instead. I left it for 24 hours. When I removed it I thought what the heck.....I will take it out of the mold now. Beautiful removal. Nice sharp corners. Can I hear from other non-gellers on...

    Meadowfoam seed oil

Brambleberry no longer carries meadowfoam oil. Anyone know where I can get it where the shipping doesn’t cost more than the oil? I am on the west coast.

    Scratchy soap

It looks exactly like mine. What the heck?! Did you just carry on as usual or did you make any adjustments to your process? It really takes the joy out of soap making when you don’t know how to correct this.

    Scratchy soap

They hard things are hard to see. They feel like hard balls. I am going to blame the beeswax. When I cut them off I can squeeze them and they go away. Īwhen you lather up with a bar it feels like I intentionally put an abrasive in it.

    Scratchy soap

I can’t positively say there is no Shea in it. It is CP. I don’t think it got scorched. My house is standing. No outside damage. No smoke damage. However, the soap was drying. Other soaps same recipe at the same time so it must be somewhere in my process. Next batch will all be new ingredients...

    Scratchy soap

i started using a bar of soap I made some time ago. I don’t remember the recipe but it was most likely pretty basic. Coconut, olive, palm, Shea butter, micas. There is something hard and scratchy in the soap. It feels like little hard balls. In eight years of soap making I have never had this...
