good blend for a honey & oat CP soap?

Good question! :D In my oatmeal, milk, and honey soap I use a wonderful Milk and Honey FO from a local shop, Zenith Supplies. It has a sweet, soft, warm scent to it and everyone seems to love it. I'm not sure where Zenith acquires it, but it really is quite lovely. Would post a link, but they...

So excited - my first soap is ready today!

Looks great! Can't wait to see what else you make :)

Lavender cut, from the first pour in the slab mold.

As promised, here are a few pics of the lavender soap. Cut it last night, probably could have left it in the mold a little longer, but it all worked out. Please forgive the lack of good lighting, was too tired to futz with it. ;)

    Recommend Paper Trimmer/Cutter

Swingline ... not just staplers! Seriously though, I've used a variety of cutters over the years and I find most swing-arm guillotine cutters to be either acceptable or not. When I decided to get one awhile back I picked up this one and it has been working well up to about 5 to 6 sheets of full...

    Stinky Beer Soap

I will second the idea that the smell should mellow out and eventually go away. For a few years now I have been making a soap that uses milk stout beer. (The lactose seems to do great things for the soap lather?) It's a pretty strong hand soap (for the likes of mechanics and gardners, etc.) that...

What soapy thing have you done today?

After a few years full of various life challenges, I finally got back to soaping and picked up a slab mold and splitter. I've really missed soaping, but also missed being here at the forums. You all provide so much knowledge and inspiration. Moving on, we poured into the new mold last night for...

    Need Advice Regarding Waterproof Labels

We use these labels from onlinelabels.com And a Brother Laser Printer I believe it is due to the laser printing that our labels never run, even on the standard, matte label paper. Not sure if this will help, but it has been my experience.

    I have a confession .....

Sometimes I drink the beer I am supposed to make soap with. The milk stout is just so delicious, I can't help myself. I'm shameless.

    Possible reaction to lye?

Very sorry to hear about your troubles. Not sure if you're using any sort of mask or respirator, but I personally use one as I have sensitive sinuses. Of course, good ventilation in the soaping area is key as well. Something like this is great as you can change out the filter cartridges as...

    yet another label prototype

Thanks! We got our license today. My mother was born and raised in Cali, actually. I have not been able to spend much time there, personally. I hail from central Illinois originally and moved to Seattle in the mid 90's. I have traveled a bit, lived in Florida for awhile, but Washington has...

    yet another label prototype

I appreciate your feedback but this is not a discussion about my product or how good it is. However, if you must know I have not had any bad feedback on my products (in particular soap, but if you must know I actually do have several other products in development.) In fact, I have literally had...

    yet another label prototype

Hey everyone! I honestly thank you all so very much. I was hoping to respond to everyone in direct replies but I don't think I will have time. While I can't say that I agree with everyone, there are a good number of very valid points and opinions here. I hope to clear a few things up real quick...

So these seem to mostly be filtered oxides? This Mr Rabbit has another hole to burrow into. Thanks! :)

    Shave Soap Puck vs Cup

I want to know, too. For the record, I grew up in Illinois and was literally surrounded by corn. I often balk at the cost of corn these days, and now wonder if when I do buy it... do I just dry that silk and use it in my soap instead of composting it? Because... oh my... I might cry little tears...

You're feedback is as invaluable as all others! Also, I tend to love your sense of humor. I actually agree with making the logo a little smaller. I think I am going to remove some of the whitespace from inside the logo itsself as well. Tighten it up a bit. I was playing with some sans serif...

Net weight... Approximate Net Weight? Do you have an exact source on that please? I ask because I am still feeling like I am struggling with this. According to this...

    yet another label prototype

Much appreicated, I will definitely look into it :) Admittedly it sort of breaks my heart a little to hear that as part of my mission is to donate soaps and personal care products to local shelters, but I thank you for your honest opinion and feedback. Upon public release I expect to mostly...

    yet another label prototype

preface: very rough pototype for a label. i repeat, very rough prototype. so... i hope to eventually sell my soaps publicly. (possibly this summer? i know, trust me i know, that it may be too early.) in the meantime i am working on labels so that when i give and 'sell' soaps to friends and...

    Shave Soap Puck vs Cup

I actually let my lye come down to between 100F and ambient and it seems fine. My experience with stearic acid says do keep the oils warm. I try to keep them around 170F. Also, here are the molds I mentioned (forgot to take pics of them when I was doing shaving soap, but they work for any pucks...
