    2 year test

I used my oldest soap that have today. It is 2 years old and worked great. In fact it worked better according to the notes that I took when I first used it at 90 days old. I was completely surprised how quickly it lathered up and I was overwhelmed by the amount of bubbly lather that I got. I'm...

    ZCS vs. VCS update

I apologize for being absent on this topic for so long. I have not abandoned the forum but I have been dealing with post knee surgery problems. As soon as I get a chance I will post pictures of the first batch of soap that I used the final ZCS formula in.. I think it has been around 8 months...

    Watch face for soaping

For those with a smart watch I have been trying to design a watch face that will be handy to use while making soap. However I can't really come up with anything. I'm not even sure that there is anything that would be of use to anyone. If you have an opinion or suggestion, please let me know.

    Soap making watch face

For those who have a smart watch, I have designed a very simple watch face and here's the link. This is just a start and if anyone has any suggestions for what I could add or that would help during soap making, let me know. Monday, I will start making changes. https://www.facer.io/user/fzqk8xJohe

    Night at the fair

We have a very small 4H fair and this was the first night. Are commercial building is only open for 4 hours a night. I was there 3.5 hours and sold 11 bars of soap and 21 tubes of lip balm and 10 jars of my all natural jelly (vasoline replacement). Pretty happy with the first night.

    All Natural conundrum

I have created a foaming hand soap that is 99% all natural. The 1% that cannot be called natural is the preservative, liquid germall plus. For my formula I have a natural alternative which is Leucidal® SF Max. The conundrum that I have is that I don't have as much experience/faith with the...

    Can you see the fish?

Can you see the fish swimming around in the blue water? They were supposed to look like koi fish but the gold in the confetti that I used didn't come through like I thought it would. Oh well, the Zen came through in the soap, so I am happy.

    Not sure of the cause

I'm not sure what is causing this problem that I have circled. I have had it happen before and I can't seem to find a common thread to connect each time it happened. I force gell all of my soaps and it doesn't happen every time. I thought it was vanillin discoloration but it has happened in soap...

Embrace the random, unusual and quirky

This is some encouragement for people new to making soap and like me, they are not a natural artist. I looked at the beautiful soap swirls and complicated designs that looked like paintings instead of soap. I found it very difficult in the beginning to make any swirl let alone some of the more...

    My confetti sample line

I made these for giving away samples of my soap. They are just under 3/4" in size and they are all the same recipe.

    Most difficult to make

I didn't use any colorants in this soap and that was the hardest thing I have ever done. Lol! Even with the colorful confetti, I still wanted to add some color. The soap reminds me of the little bits of broken fruit loops when you reach the bottom of the box. But that is hard to put in the name.

    First scraper soap

I had fun with this one and I used my custom made scraper for this one. I call it Gray area 51 and it has a little symbolism in there that the customers might not figure out but then again they might. All I know is that I like it.

    Heirloom apple

Here is my rendition of the apples that grew in my grandparents orchard when I was a kid. I never new what the name of the apples were but I remember what they looked like. I provided a picture for comparison. I didn't quite get it exactly but it smells like an apple.

    Doesn't look like fruit

I wanted to make some soap that looked like the fruit that it represents. As you can see, they don't really look like an orange and a strawberry. I'm going to do some carving on them to see if I can get them to look like they are supposed to.

    Stumped

I made this soap yesterday and I was very excited to see it cut but I am not sure why it crumbled on the bottom and the dark spots near the scraps. I'm guessing that the crumbling and dark spots have something to do with the scraps that I used. However I've never had this problem before with...

Beer and dragons, what a night!

The peace, love & Beer soap is for my grandpa. Right before Notre Dame would take the field he would say "I want peace & love in this house and bring me a beer". It was his way of saying shut up while the game was on lol. The 2 holiest days of the year in my grandparents house were Irish game...

Making homemade VCS (vanilla color stabilizer), called ZCS

This is going to be a closed thread for the homemade version of commercial VCS (vanilla color stabilizer), which we are calling ZCS in order to distinguish between the homemade (ZCS) and commercial version (VCS). Formula: 10 ozs distilled water 3 ozs sodium metabisulfate (SM) 3 ozs sodium...

    New technique

I was trying to figure out something new to try and while I was mixing my mica colors the other day, I noticed at the edges of my beaker that the 2 colors didn't seem to be mixing together. If you look real close you should be able to see a different color around the edges of the dark blue...
