    Natural orange colour

I am not sure why but I had a dramatic change in a soap made with turmeric. It started out really deep orange but then transformed in a spotted soap.

How to use these natural colorants in HP

Kiwi, It has stayed pretty much the same. It has been very interesting to watch it go from a pumpkin purée color to very pale and then to it’s current color palate. Here is a picture of how it looks as of today.

How to use these natural colorants in HP

I used a turmeric that was a dietary supplement in capsule form. It might have a very small amount of other additives too. I am surprised at the transformation and it’s interesting to watch it change. A spice turmeric may not behave like this.

How to use these natural colorants in HP

I made a citrus soap colored with turmeric last weekend. The color right after mixing was a deep orange color, which faded to a much lighter shade of orange the next day when I removed it from the mold and cut it. Yesterday it started to show dark orange specks and this morning it has really...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Today I cut the turmeric colored soap that I made yesterday. It was really still too soft to remove from the silicone mold and the Pringles can, but I went ahead with it anyway. These are just for our use so the “rustic” look will be ok. The orange color really lightened up and is close to the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Marilyn, I just took a peek and all is good. I don’t think the soap raised at all. It was in the 50’s in the garage today while I was soaping. I mixed the lye water into the oils at about 120-125 degrees. After I was finished I covered the soap with cardboard and towels. I will take pics after...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I have not used spice turmeric but have read that you can. It really should be about the same I think. I lined the inside of the Pringles can with butcher paper. It all looked good for the few minutes that it was poured. I wrapped in a a towel because it is in my garage and it’s not overly...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I made a kind of an experimental soap today. It is a soap that had ingredients similar to previous batches with a little tweaking. I got some silicone molds for Christmas and I wanted to try one with 6 bars in the mold. Also had a Pringle’s can that I wanted to play with. The soap was scented...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Mischief, That is a good idea. I was hoping for a darker red color but this color will work with the peppermint EO well enough. Also, no one but me will no what color that I was going for... lol. I did add about a tsp of TD to the white portion of the mix and it was definitely thicker than...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Very nice soaps Steffamarie. Beautiful swirls in them. I cut my batch a little early too because I am impatient as well. A little disappointed in the color and definitely disappointed in the lack of swirl in this batch. It was my first attempt at multi-color and doing a swirl so I will take it...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Put together a Christmas themed soap today. Scented with peppermint EO with just a touch of cedarwood EO added. Hopefully it will turn out well and tomorrow when I cut it I will take better pics.

    What happened to this batch?

I will try and attach a couple of pictures taken after I cut the soap today. It was softer than normal after 24 hours.

    What happened to this batch?

Does mixing these two essential oils at about .5 oz ppo seem excessive? This soap appeared to trace very quickly but I did manage to get it in the mold twice. I will be interested to cut into it later today to see what it looks like.

    What happened to this batch?

This is the recipe that I used. 32 ounces of oil. 5% super fat Coconut oil. 20%. (6.4 ounces) Olive oil. 35%. (11.2 ounces) Palm oil. 40%. (12.8 ounces) Castor oil. 5%. (1.6 ounces) Lye. 4.48 oz Water. 12.16 oz Both essential oils were...

    What happened to this batch?

Today I made my 6th batch of CP soap. I used a basic recipe that I was successful with before. This time I incorporated 3 natural colors (cocoa powder, turmeric & ginger) and 2 essential oils (cinnamon and cloves). I mixed base oils together and removed one tablespoon each to mix into...

How to add EO’s and colors?

I would like to make a tri-colored CP soap with a mix of two essential oils. Up until now I have not added extra colors to my soaps except for one batch with TD. I am wondering which would be the best way to proceed. Should I mix the oils and lye mixture, add EO’s and then separate into 3...

    What caused this?

Thanks amd, I will give less TD a try along with less water next time. I used one and a half tsp on this last batch for 26 ounces of oils.

    What caused this?

Obsidian, thanks I will give that a try. Lenarenee, Thanks again for all of your suggestions. The TD was oil soluble so not an issue there. I just mixed it with a spoon so there was some grit to the mixture. I let it set about half an hour before adding it to my oils and hoped that it would...

    What caused this?

Thank you for the replies. I purchased the TD primarily for a white colorant for a red & white peppermint soap that I am planning to make. I thought that I would try it in this batch of almond fragrance soap. I just mixed it in with a couple of ounces of olive oil and then incorporated it into...
