Sides and bottom of soap turned orange! Why?

I am experiencing the same “orange” problem. I am now wondering if the room temp could have something to do w this. I used the same molds, same M&P fo’s, additives, etc, for a few years, and now (in Jan) this happening to me as well. My molds were wonderful and expensive. Strange thing - the...

    Does anybody like unscented soap?

I have experienced the same thing and don’t understand why, but I guess differences make the world go around! I find the Cranberry Spice scent to be a strong scent and would make a wonderfully scented candle that would, most likely, have a nice throw to it.

    Does anybody like unscented soap?

i had to add my 2 cents!! My daughter uses unscented soaps that I make, as she is too sensitive for the scented ones. She claims my soap has helped her skin which makes me very happy. Personally, I love strong scented soaps. I have not sold an unscented bar of soap in 1 1/2 years and I’m sure...

    Dark Brown Soap- Mix&Pour Base

Thank You for your reply. Yes, I stayed within the IFRA guidelines. With the Birthday Cake fo, I’m sure there was a higher end level of vanillin in it compared to other fo’s that use vanillin. I’m just going to use the soap since it smells so good and bubbles wonderfully. 🥰

    Dark Brown Soap- Mix&Pour Base

Can a FO turn a mix and pour soap base dark brown? Should a vanilla stabilizer be used? Would TD keep the soap from turning brown? I used a new fo, Birthday Cake and another, Sugar Cookie from Fragrance Buddy. Both soaps turned dark brown after a week. I wrapped them like I do for other soaps...

    M and P Lather

Thank You for your replies. I don’t use extra butters or clays in my soap. Mine are supposed to be detergent free and I don’t get them from WSP, but from other various web sites. I found this to be very curious for M&P and wondered if others have had the same experience. I am also curious if...

    M and P Lather

Has anyone else noticed that their m&p soap gets better lather after 1 or 2 weeks? As a rule, I know m&p soap can be used immediately after it has hardened and removed from the mold and doesn’t need a curing time. I find that no matter the base used (and I haven’t tried many), I have to work to...

Is this Normal for Mix n Pour

Thank You for your thoughts, IrishLass! I do have a small whisk but was afraid my soap would float if I whisked it too much, so I used a spoon. I didn’t really think it a good idea to microwave the base w the fo but I am new to mix and pour, so it was just something I considered afterwards. I...

Is this Normal for Mix n Pour

Hello all and thank you for your expertise! I recently bought a white M&P base, melted the base in a microwave, added my fragrance oil and used a white M&P silicone mold (that was never used). Where the soap base touched the mold, there is a thin, yellowing fine line along the edges of the...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

I’ve made a few batches of successful soap and decided to do a candy peppermint swirl. 1st of all I have to say that after reading this thread (& chuckling), I felt so much better! HOWEVER, I made a big booboo. Without thinking (which happens quite frequently to me), I started soaping by mixing...

    Sweet (Tasting) Soap

Hello Everyone! I have a strange question. Is anyone aware of anything that would make the finished bar of soap on the sweet side? I bought a bar of soap some time back that had great lather & hardness, and was rather sweet tasting! Out of curiosity, I did a zap test before using it and I...

    Castor Oil in HP

THank you Obsidian and Saltyfig for your explanations! I will need to mull over your responses in order to absorb what you have said. I realize now more than ever how important it is to do my homework first and experiment making soap. I appreciate your time and expertise!

    Castor Oil in HP

Hello everyone, I have recently begun to make HP soap again and have a few questions. Upon saponification, does the soap retain any of the base oil’s properties such as lather, moisturizing benefits, etc., or do they disappear? If you want to add castor oil for lather benefits, is it best to add...

    Received Soap Mold

Thank you, SoapmakerMan! I couldn't wait to use the mold, and now I'll have to wait a bit longer! The mold is extremely well made, and is so sturdy it should last a lifetime. I will let you know how UPS handles this situation.

    Listing Soap Ingredients

Thank you for your response. I would bet my bottom dollar that this was sugar. It was shiny like sugar, and looked just like sugar. I just didn't taste it! I also was under the impression that all ingredients are supposed to be listed. I thought there were strict guidelines for this, but...

    Listing Soap Ingredients

Just wondering- I was browsing a local store's soap products, and happened on a nice looking, layered soap that looked like cake with icing on top with pink sprinkles (sugar). The ingredients didn't state sugar. Is it necessary, or no big deal to leave out the sugar? :?:
