    Need Help on Oil %

It really is up to you... and how much cost you can absorb. I tried a 50% Shea butter bar that I like. I also tried a 50% cocoa butter bar, that one I'm not a fan of.

    Rose EO in CP soap

I absolutely LOVE rosewood EO but it's also getting pretty cost prohibitive since it's now an endangered species (except the variety from Madagascar). It's not at the cost point of rose itself but I personally wouldn't waste it in CP/HP soap.

    Your favorite exfoliating add ins

I find them "scratchy" too, I think limiting the amount is really helps. It's still my current favorite soap though- although I won't use it directly on my face.

Did I buy the wrong FO

It's slowly morphing back into something that at least has a hint of vanilla. Still predominantly the play-doh smell but it's getting better. I'm hoping it'll continue to improve over the next 5 weeks (but I'm keeping my expectations low). I wonder which components tend to cause the play-doh...

    Your favorite exfoliating add ins

Yes, they were. I think it was a light roast.

Did I buy the wrong FO

Agreed! I used a vanilla stabilizer so hopefully that will limit the color change although no big deal either way. Moreso hoping I don't have to walk around smelling like play-doh once the soap is usable. :)

using coffee grounds for exfoliating in soap

I use grinds that have already been used... Not sure I could convince my husband to give me unused ones ;)

    Your favorite exfoliating add ins

I made a batch with coffee grounds and ground oatmeal. It is hands down my favorite!!

Did I buy the wrong FO

Hi everyone! I took advantage of RE's 20 for $20 sale and I finally tried one of the FOs this weekend. I used Southern Vanilla which smelled decent OOB but the soap currently smells like play-doh without a hint of vanilla. I went back and looked at the website, it says bath and body safe but...

    WSP sale of Fragrances

Oatmeal 'n Honey is my favorite, smells good enough to eat... but I obviously haven't tried. I also like the vanilla oak which is more of a "guys" scent but for some reason it's my go to after a workout. The dreamsicle is really good too, amazing how spot on it is to the actual thing. I've...

    who ships fast?

I just bought lye from WSP this past week and it shipped the following day. I agree about how slowly items go out during sales but during normal times I've had no companiesc.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I went to make my favorite recipe. I was taking my time and everything was going great. Got everything in the mold and started cleaning up... then I realized I didn't add one of the oils because I got distracted at the beginning. Recalculated the recipe, I now have a -8% superfat soap.

What soapy thing have you done today?

My husband asked about how much soap we have sitting around the house, "don't you have like a years worth of soap?" I sheepishly told him I have enough to last more than a year... And then I ran off to make two beer soaps.

Is there a backwards soap calculator

Agreed, I was thinking extra constraints could be added such as "I only have these six oils available." I'm not sure how useful the program would be but I was intrigued yesterday thinking about it. I was really imagining bring same to have the profile you want and having multiple recipes you...

Is there a backwards soap calculator

Okay, bear with me on this. Does anyone know of a soap calculator that is "backwards" and generates possible recipes for you? Specifically, I am interested in inputting the fatty acid profile I want (for the soap to have) and then have the calculator give me different oil combinations that would...

    Suet vs Tallow

Oops, guess I made suet soap last weekend! I generally don't use any animal products in my soap (vegetarian/dairy free here) but we got beef kidney for the dog to eat and I didn't want (a) him eating that much fat and (b) the fat to go to waste. I can't help with any differences as I previously...

    Lard & Tallow soaps

You might consider replacing the olive oil with almond oil. Single oil tests seem to show almond oil does great with bubbles and lather (despite soapcalc showing 0). It obviously won't be the same as what CO would get you but it seems like some have found it impressive based on what they expected.

    Time Saving Techniques Requested

I plan my soap about a week in advance and I will measure ito everything I plan to use a few days before actually making the soap. Hard oils in one container, soft oils in another container, and lye water in a third (admittedly since I don't master batch this I tend to do this in the morning the...

    de-funk de pits

Success! I made a second batch with magnesium hydroxide. Unlike the first batch with magnesium chloride there was no burning sensation this time.
