Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

Ok it has been about two weeks so I wanted to try the soap out and give a review. The soap smells like a bee hive. May not be pleasant for all but I like it. Used it in the shower with a shower poof/scrubby... whatever that is called. It takes a lot of time, effort and soap to get it to...

Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

So DOS is an oxidation within the soap of various metals. Seems like oils with high Linoleic acid are prone to oxidizing metal contaminants easily. Soybean oil is unfortunately 51% linoleic acid per a quick wiki search lol. Bees wax has some miner antioxidant properties and honey is high in...

Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

That's really cool. That's some of the cheapest coconut oil I have seen. Comes out to about 13.8c per fl oz. but coconut oil usually needs to be mixed with other oils cause it is too harsh. Just as a cheap one oil experiment, my soybean oil comes out to about 5.1c per fl oz. I will for sure look...

    Second soap attempt.

That is my equipment basically. The bucket is some crystallized spring honey from 2017 harvest I never canned or bottled for sale. Oils I am using are are clear clean oils. Once all melted together they are see through and pale yellow.

Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

Yes thank you all for the comments. BrewerGeorge: what was it about that soap that you did not like? Too oily, not enough lather? Smelled bad? Lol... I am using hot process for all my soap making at the moment for clarification. Using the low setting on my $5.00 thrift store crock pot. I...

Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

Yea it does seem to do that regardless of the technique. I think I am going to reduce from 10% of water content to 2% and see how that does.

Soap comparison. Can cheap oils work just as well?

Hello everyone. I am very new into soap making and am having a blast. Many have been following my last thread "second soap attempt" and I thank all of you. I purchased some cheap Walmart brand vegetable oil which was strait soy bean oil for some baking, but I knew I was not going to use all of...

    Second soap attempt.

Ok I like to give closure to project forums so people know how things turned out. I let the soap dry out for a couple weeks and now have been using a bar in the shower mainly. I find it has a pretty good amount a lather. It has a "clean" smell? Not sure how to describe it. I used lemon grass...

Learned something new about adding real raw honey to soap.

Amazing. Did you buy a mold for that? If so, where?

    Question about soap containing lard

On mine where the heat was too high I think. It turned out as well. But was lumpy and not as pretty when unmolded. I just trimmed off the edges and it all looked good.

    Question about soap containing lard

Just sharing my limited experience but in my last couple HP batches I used 25% lard, 25%coconut oil, 48% Crisco New, 2% bees wax with 1/10 honey to water ratio for liquid. Mine came to trace in 15 minutes on the first batch using a fork to whisk only and closer to like 7 minutes using a stick...
