Having problems with piping, is it my hot hands?

I use a similar recipe for piping but found that if I didn't add additives or a fragrance it took forever to thicken enough to pipe. I had one unscented batch with 50% lard, 25% oo, 15 co, 5% castor that took 8 hours to get thick enough. I have found that adding kaolin will help it thicken...

    Saturated:Unsaturated Ratio?

I've read some people prefer the 60/40mg but personally most of my recipes are closer to 40/60. I pay closer attention to keeping my lauric/myristic lower, stearic/palmatic, oleic higher and linoleic/linolenic under 14 and my cleansing at 12. We all have a personal preference. I like a low...

How many soap makers get insurance?

I live in Canada and I sell at our local market. Our market has liability insurance to cover us. As I decide to "spread my wings" I will be looking for affordable insurance options. Until I have insurance I won't place soap in our local stores or approach other businesses.

Cannot get soap to stop cracking, no matter what I do.

Cannot get soap to stop cracking, no matter what I do.

You mentioned that you are using aloe juice. I would tend to lean toward the sugar in the aloe juice being the reason your soap is overheating. Are you using any other additives? There's lots of great ideas given to prevent cracking. If you don't want to gel then I'd pop your soap into the...

Do honeybees ever nest in raised garden beds?

The soap doesn't harm the soil. My flowers are doing great. I grow flowers to use dry and infuse in oil so I needed to find a more natural product to remove those stinging beasts. Lol. I did quite a bit of searching online before choosing the soap. It was a good use for soap I was going to toss...

Do honeybees ever nest in raised garden beds?

I had yellow jackets in my flower bed and found out the hard way by getting stung twice in a row, once on the ankle and on my finger through my gloves. I researched what to do. First I totally saturated the flower bed. The water brought them to the top and I knew where the nest was. Then I took...

    Guar gum

guar gum in canned coconut milk won't hurt your soap but it will speed your batter up really quick, really really quick. Guar gum is a thickener. I learnt the hard way. I now read all my cans and only buy coconut milk that only coconut and water are ingredients

It Was Bound To Happen Eventually...need advice...

I'm sure we've all done it. I forgot half my lye in a batch a few months ago. I didn't realize until it was already in the oven. I scooped it out, stick blended in the lye water and slammed it down. Thankfully all my colors were shades of blues and whites. I ended up with a nice blue soap. But I...
