What soapy thing have you done today?

Boring but I did some melt and pour last night. Shea butter base, I was trying for red and yellow swirls with bronze mica but the swirls didn't work But when I took it out the mould it was an amazing burnished copper colour. Little heavy on the mica but also as I used a cinnamon FO smells divine

What advice would you give to your beginning soaping self?

Let's see Well, And yes I've made all of these Be mean when adding colours and fragrances. A little really does go a long way When microwaving base, don't set it for a minute on high power unless you like scraping burnt plastic and soap off your kitchen worktips Make sure you've got enough...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

Messing about last night I melted base and it didn't seem to be melting so being a genuis (HA!) I put it on longer.. When the timer went off I looked and oh yes its melted. Got my oven gloves on. Took the container out and the bottom stayed behind! I'd melted a hole in the base. So then I...

    Melting soap

Just before I started making my own soap I got some white soap from the shop- nothing special just cheap soap for washing hands etc. always left my skin feeling dry as most shop brought soaps do and since I started making my own soap it's just sitting there and I am wondering if I could use it...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Alas I don't have an outside, which is a big reason I do melt and pour I don't have anywhere where I could safely handle lye

What soapy thing have you done today?

Not today but last night. I made a batch last week and when I put it in the moulds I realised I hadn't quite melted enough base so I added some tapwater. Too much as it turned out the soap stayed gel like and wouldn't set enough to lift it out the mould so last night I scraped it all out and...

    What went wrong?

I'm now making soap with more confidence Did one for a friend. Didn't add colour to the melted base apart from a swirl of copper mica. Bit of a disaster when I realized I'd get two thin soaps from the base but wanted a big one. Ended up remelting half of it then adding it to the mould so the...

    Men's fragrances

I made some quick MP soap for a male friend and as most of my current stock of FO's are a bit feminine I used patchouli and gingerbread FO's and he loved them

    What went wrong?

I'm going to try a larger mould tonight but I won't add milk to that as I think it would be in use too long so would spoil. It's a learning curve when I run out of this base I'm going for a goats milk one to try Being a little broke this year my plan is everyone gets soap for Xmas so I need to...

    What went wrong?

Well a month later he's still happy with the soap because its all really tiny bits I used a mould for very small star shapes so as he's using nothing else he's probably going through it fast enough to avoid spoiling by keeping what he isn't using in the fridge. He says he loves the smell it's...

    What went wrong?

That now I recall was an olive oil base

    What went wrong?

My friend reports it lathers well and smells fantastic and as they are really small bars he's going to put the rest in the freezer and bring them out as needed.. At the workshop I made 5 small bars with semi skimmed milk in the mix and they've just been stored in a cupboard and two months later...

    What went wrong?

It was just a trial and I did say to my friend I wasn't sure about the spoilage, he has promised to report so it will be interesting to see what he does report
