    Deer Tallow Soap

Thank you for the info and pics re deer soap! I have wondered how soap would turn out from rendered wild game fat. I could possibly have access to moose and bear fat to render for soap. I have rendered my own tallow many times from beef trimmings with great success. All the fat from the...

    SMF November Challenge Entry Thread

    severly limited ingrediants for soap

I have made 100% tallow soap before, a few times. It was wonderful and very hard, lasting a long time. You can use the goats milk too! I replace 1/3 of the liquid with goats milk and also add 2 teaspoons sugar per pound for more lather in all my soaps. Dissolve the sugar in the hot lye water...

    Is rebatching soap "bad"?

That was about 8 years ago. I had those rebatched bars for a year, still great looking, smelling and working soap after a year. I eventually used them all, no problem with them.

    Is rebatching soap "bad"?

I have only had DOS a couple of times and it wasn't rancid or bad smelling, just had the orange spots right away. It made good soap after rebatching. I think mine were caused by handling with bare hands as they looked like fingerprints. Using gloves at all times seemed to fix that problem. DOS...

    Is rebatching soap "bad"?

I would just rebatch soap with DOS.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Packaged my finished healing herbal infused soap. Thinking about making tangerine in a few days.

    How late is too late?

You could also make HP (cooked hot soap). It will be ready in a week or two.

    Is rebatching soap "bad"?

I have seen posts from people online who do what you are suggesting. I have read that it can be done well so the hot soap is smooth. However, as said above, it takes a long time to get it that melted and I hate grating anything! I usually don't have the patience to wait for it to completely melt...

    Browsing soap pics

Love the confetti soap! Great way to use up odds and ends of brightly colored soap pieces. :) I think I'm going to try that sometime. I absolutely love this one! I'm going to try this sometime. Doesn't look difficult or time consuming to do.

What soapy thing have you done today?

Great, thanks! That's what I'll go with then. Easy...and cheap!

What soapy thing have you done today?

looked at and fondled my oatmeal honey banana soap (using gloves, of course). It's getting harder! and I took a a shower with soap! lol! I discussed my soaps with a neighbor over coffee this morning and am planning my next batch...maybe half strawberry and half tangerine. I make big 4.5 lb...

Help - based in the U.K. Making CP Soaps

I have been using FOs from Mystic Moments - Amazon, which I believe is in china or HongKong. I like her FOs. They come in well sealed commercial bottles and well packaged. It doesn't seem to cause any reaction in the soap or my skin and the scents are very real and seem to last, so far at least...

If you don't sell, what are you doing with all your soap

That is discouraging. Sometimes these organizations are just not that organized and short staffed. They would probably like a donation of soap but didn't have anyone available to take phone messages or answer them. I would just take it and drop it off. Those larger organizations often don't...

Speed up drying/curing time of CP soap?

Thanks everyone for the information! I going to keep my eyes open for one at the thrift store this winter. I can use a pot on the stove, as I have done many times, but the crockpot method looks so much easier and safer. Zany: Good idea. I think I will leave it as is, provided it still looks...

Speed up drying/curing time of CP soap?

Great ! Thanks! I was worried because they all piled together at the bottom of the bars but I'm not going to worry about it. :)

Speed up drying/curing time of CP soap?

They were finely ground and I put them in before stick blending. It might be ok. I'll see what it looks like after it's hard. I can always rebatch it but I'd rather not. A friend in Ontario wants some from me for Christmas so I might cook it anyway so it's ready to send to her soon, maybe. I...

Speed up drying/curing time of CP soap?

Thank you for the information, Deanna! Now I'm a bit concerned about the oatmeal soap I made a few days ago. I don't want the oats in my soap to sour. I put in more than I usually do but I ground them up fine in my spice grinder. Half of them sunk to the bottom in the thin CP soap,so...

If you don't sell, what are you doing with all your soap

It can also go to those service individuals who are so often forgotten at Christmas. Mail persons, meter readers, delivery drivers, police officers, firemen, teachers, doctors and nurses. A gift for them at Christmas would probably be greatly appreciated. Most of them are at the least ignored...

Speed up drying/curing time of CP soap?

I use sugar and goats milk and coconut milk. I have never had a crack or volcano or DOS in the milk soaps and it's great soap without souring years later. I have never had my soap get sour or rancid. It's not all perfect, of course. I make the odd mistake making a batch occasionally that I...
