    Aloe Vera liquid on label

Aloe liquid will not react to make soap, so leave off the "Sodium". I'm not sure about the labeling requirements in Canada, but you may have to incorporate all the ingredients in the aloe into your final ingredients list...

Weird Burn. Did I do something wrong?

I don't make candles much anymore but when I first started I tried using stuff from Micheals/Hobby Lobby. Never had any luck. Finally started ordering from Candlewic & Lonestar, had much better luck. It's still a challenge to come up with the proper wick size. To calculate fragrance load simply...

Weird Burn. Did I do something wrong?

The wax you used was probably meant for pillars and not containers. The wicks may have been rated for soy wax, which generally has a lower melting point. Your fragrance load is about 3.7% which should be good.

    Feedback on this blender

I think you will have a very hard time recognizing trace with that type of blender. Plus the batter will go very fast since the whole thing is getting an intense mixing. I've used a cheap walley-world blender that worked great. Cost around $11 but it has a plastic bell, so is for CP only. The...

Candle Wick, Large Lot, Free for Shipping Cost

I have a large quantity of candle wick that I no longer need. I guess there's no way to embed photos and I don't have the pics on a hosting site, so if you want pictures drop me a PM with your email address. I have weighed the spools and calculated the remaining quantities. This is being...

    Transparent soap recipe overview

I've never made transparent soap so I'm not sure what happens to the alcohol during the process. That said, I'd be very careful using denatured alcohol in soap. What makes it denatured (undrinkable) is that it has poisons added to it.

Not sure what I am doing wrong

A bit more information would be helpful. What wax are you using? What wick series and size? What fragrance load? You mention your mold is 2.5", what diameter is the melt pool when it drowns out?

Safely Disposing Of Old Fragrance Oils????

If you're in the USA, I'd say put an ad on craigslist. Put a reasonable price on the dye blocks (I don't think they go bad, but some may fade slightly) and throw in the FOs for free. Some other hobbyist candle maker I'm sure would be happy to check them out and use them.

    Wilkommen to me!

Hi Erin, welcome to the forum. I moved out here (WA) a couple years ago from Rock Hill, SC. Besides soap, I've done some candle making and while I've never done a carved candle, I'd say it's up to you if you want to make the candle core and then add your color layers, or just start with a wick...

    Newbie questions after 4 batches

Hi Spuffy, I'm a newbie too but I'll give you my opinions. Batch one with the 80% coconut oil will trace a lot faster than the other ones. It also hardens in the mold quicker and if you wait too long can break when cutting. Lard and olive oil tend to trace very slowly (in my experience) and I...

High Linoleic Oils not a good choice?

Thank you IrishLass, I'll keep that in mind as I'm formulating my next batch.

High Linoleic Oils not a good choice?

Thank you DeeAnna. Looks like the canola is mid-oleic. The grape seed is of course high polyunsat. The sunflower oil is actually from a Russian grocery and there is no nutrition label. All it says is "unrefined". So I guess I'll count it as high linoleic and use it up a little here, a little...

High Linoleic Oils not a good choice?

Hi all, When I first became interested in CP soap making and before I found the infinite wisdom of SMF, I went to Walmart and bought big jugs of grape seed, canola and sunflower oil (along with lard, olive and coconut). After reading here I understand that the high linoleic oils can make DOS...

Hello Zany :) I used to live in Colorado (Erie). My daughter grew up and went to school K-12 there. I miss being around "real" mountains sometimes.
