    Pumpkin Seed Oil?

Has anyone used / had success with pumpkin seed oil in CP soap? I really like the look and feel that Tamanu oil (at 5%) gives my soap, but it's really expense, and PSO seems to have a similar oil property profile, and it's 1/20th the cost. Thanks - Steve

    Shaving Soap Compliment

Received a great compliment from a co-worker yesterday. I had made a batch of shaving soap last month and shared some out with my work buddies. (5% Cocoa Butter, 10% Coco, 5% Shea Butter, 50% SA, 30% Beef Tallow, 25% / 75% NaOH/KOH) Well, when I walked into work yesterday, one of my buddies...

    Tallow-tastic Weekend!

Howdy Ya'll! So, I've been working my way patiently through the 100+ pages of the shaving soap thread. Gotten up to page 49 so far, and have already decided I want to try a batch or two using beef tallow. So I bought 5 lbs from the HEB butcher counter this Saturday to render down. (Got it...

    One tiny change... Disaster!

So last month I made a batch of bar soap specifically for shaving, and using Tamanu Oil as the super-fat in the recipe: 4 Oz CO, 4 Oz Olive, 5 Oz Palm, 1 Oz Avocado, 1 Tbs Bentonite, 2.2 Oz Lye, 1 Cup Water. I blended to light trace, then added the Tamanu Oil and Shave & a Haircut fragrance...

    Mom Soap

I've got an order from BrambleBerry coming in this week and I'm gearing up to make soap as Christmas Presents this year. Regular Bars for the ladies, and Shaving Bars for the guys. If I make them this weekend they should have a good 3 months to cure before they get them. (Repeat: "I will...

    Curing Soap

When curing your soap, how long do you leave your cut bars exposed to air after cutting? Do you lay them out flat, set up on end like dominos, lay on a cloth or paper towel? Thanks!

Batch 2&3: Blue Goo and Baby Poo

You might have heard that Texas got a little rain over the weekend. Thankfully we were not in the red zone, only getting 9", but it still made for a wet and lazy weekend. Being bored, I raided the house looking for things to make some more batches of soap out of. I played around with SoapCalc...

First Ever Batch - What's the white layer?

So I made my first ever batch of soap two weeks ago just as an experiment to see if I could make something useful out of used frying oil. The batch was 80% used peanut oil and 20% coconut oil, cold process. Unfortunately our hand mixer had died the week before so I hand stirred the batch for...

Howdy from Texas! The wife and I were looking to do something with our used cooking oil, so on a whim I looked up soap making and found this forum. Made our first batch today using 80% used peanut oil and 20% coconut oil. Hopefully it will turn out. Any suggestions on deodorizing the...
