What soapy thing have you done today?

I made soap yesterday! 4th batch in 2 months. I broke a cardinal rule- change/add one thing a batch- and went ahead and did two new things. First, I used (frozen) almond milk for half my liquid. Second, I tried micas for the first time. After reading many blogs/instructions, I dutifully...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hmmmmm, some people reviewed saying they had used them in soap, but didn't specify method. Thanks for the heads up, I guess this may be more of a learning experience than I thought?!?

What soapy thing have you done today?

I ordered more soap stuff! I'm new to this and made a deal with myself- I needed to make 3 batches with the materials I originally bought, before buying more stuff. I've done so, and am getting tired of making pale yellow uncoloured soap. So I bought some micas off of amazon & a nice pour...

What soapy thing have you done today?

soap things Today I did two soapy things: 1) I read advice from the post I made about salt bars (goal is to make them tomorrow) 2) I actually sat down and wrote notes on the first two soaps I made!

    Salt bar

My last post was asking for advice on a batch that went a little funny, and I learnt a ton from the responses. One of the suggestions was to post my recipe BEFORE I mess up, so here we are in yet another salt bar thread….. Coconut Oil 325g Olive Oil 75g Palm oil: 25g Castor Oil: 25g...

Soap with soft spots, advice please

Thanks I wanted to follow up, and say thankyou with some photos. Soap is now curing well, I did a zap test, and confirmed its soap. Now to let it age and dry before using. The peppermint EO I used smells great and I'm starting to work on my next recipe :)

Soap with soft spots, advice please

Wow, it turns out I learn a lot more from my mistakes (ie. second batch) than from blindly doing something correct (my first batch!) Thanks to the wonderful advice up thread, I've done research and learned so much from this discussion: 1) 'Full water' is lower than I thought (Lye to water should...

Soap with soft spots, advice please

Hmmm, thanks, that's some stuff to think about it! For other newbies that want to learn from my oops, here are my answers to BrewerGeorge's responses: I did run it through SoapCalc, but I may not yet be proficient in understanding the readout. It was a recipe I found online, then converted...

Soap with soft spots, advice please

Hello, I've made my second batch of soap, and it hasn't behaved the same as the first. I don't have enough experience to know if this is part of the normal range of variation or what. Its been 2 days since I put my soap in the mold, I went to pop it out and its still very squidgy... for lack...

What soapy thing have you done today?

Hahah, yeah, I feel you there. Most of my week was waiting and anticipating making soap on Saturday. Yesterday I made a mint soap using mint tea! Its not as dark as I would have hoped, but it smells amazing :)

What soapy thing have you done today?

First time contributing to this thread- A week of soapy things! Made my first soap on the weekend, cut it on Tuesday, hit up Goodwill for more equipment yesterday (scored a silicon muffin tin, and more stirring implements), and today i photographed soap. A minor question for anyone inclined to...

    Hello!

I've been researching and lurking for a couple months, wanting to get into soap making. I asked my husband to get me some starter materials for my birthday, and I made my first soap today! It was the basic base recipe out of Pure Soapmaking by AM Faiola (the Soap Queen), scented with lemongrass...
