    General Lye Management Question

I'll put my two cents in here as a retired eye dr. WEAR GOGGLES. People think the worst thing they can get in their eye is acid but its actually alkaline. I've gotten a few minor skin irritations (one on my foot when i spilled fresh soap on my flip flop!) but I will never let lye solution...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

Being a relatively new soapmaker, I've never heard of using vinegar in soap. Do you substitute 1:1 for water?

Our soap and the Corona Virus

Avoid reusing those disposable water bottles. I haven't checked recently, but in the recent past there was concern that reuse could lead to the release of a plasticizer. I have had to buy those cases of bottles too, to ensure I had water when I needed it. They expand when they freeze and...

Our soap and the Corona Virus

unfortunately there is a shortage of distilled water where I live in NJ. I have some, but my husband needs it for his CPAP, which takes precedence over my soapmaking hobby! I was hoping to fill a lot of my down time making soap but I think that's not going to happen...

Freezer vs. Gel re: hardness of soap

I've been soaping for about two years. Strictly hobby--no sales. Recently I made a bar of peppermint soap (using peppermint essential oil) with the same recipe I've been using for most of my other soap. I wanted to keep this soap really white so I put it in freezer to avoid gel phase. It...

What is going on? Advice needed

I forgot to mention ( I just edited my post) that I sprayed the surface with 99% alcohol. The white areas are not limited to the exposed surfaces and they can't be scrubbed off

    fragrance fade

I made a batch of soap with a brambleberry fragrance I just loved--Crisp Anjou Pear. It's been drying for about 6 or 7 weeks. Brought a bar into my shower to try it and the fragrance is almost gone! I't been making the room where it was drying smell great all this time! So, lesson to...

    Brambleberry Recommendations

palm oil in bags I must have a larger microwave than you, but my bag fits right into the microwave, and makes melting and pouring the palm oil so easy! I love their bags!
