Lye calculators are not created equal

I've always made harder soaps, so my error was actually a blessing in disguise. It has given me a chance to play with swirls. I wasn't joking when I said I was swirl impaired. I'm glad I figured out the problem though. Thanks for your help. I'll tinker with the water amounts a little more. :)...

    Bath Bomb Poof

I don't know the answer. but I saw a tutorial on making them spin. They made a small bomb, and then added on to the first bomb. If that's what you mean and no one answers, try googling it. Mine don't spin, but I like mine to foam with milk and bubbles.

    Green Ombre Swirl?

I'm sorry it didn't work out like you want. I'm pretty swirl impaired so I understand, but the soap is still very pretty. :)

    Rebatched and actually pretty now

It looks and sounds wonderful. It's kind of funny. I see people add titanium dioxide direct in videos all the time, but I always get the spots too if I don't dilute it with oil.

    Bath Bomb Poof

Is Sodium Laurel Sulfoacetate in the recipe? That makes bubbles.

Lye calculators are not created equal

This is just an observation post. I used to run almost all my recipes through The Sage's calculator, then I would use a 20% water discount, but I was usually doing cpop batches back then. Then we moved, and I had fats unavailable on most calculators at that time, dear/bear, and downloaded a...

Happy with my dual lye tallow soap!!

Gorgeous white soaps. I've been trying out the dual lye method with my bastille recipe. I've been happy with it too.

They look so good I can almost smell them. <3

    What a DISASTER!!! Whyyyyyyy :(

Not stupid. Anything new in soaping is kind of daunting. Even after a long time soaping, I almost always mess up the first time I do anything new. Chin up :) Just rebatch and try again.

    Soleseife Soap

I always did cpop because of my lack of patience. I can't resist cutting off pieces and checking the soap out while it cures. Some kids never grow up I guess. The lather never gets old. :) Thanks for your thoughts Carolyn and Susie. I'll be more patient. Maybe it's time to tinker with a new...

    Soleseife Soap

I made my first soleseife soap a few weeks ago. It came out really nice. I'm sure that was because I used the full amount of water, no discount. It was soft but is hardening up nicely as it cures. Now I want to make another soleseife soap. My question is based on not being able to make it...

It's been a week and the paste is still thick

They were paper. I didn't even know they made plastic ones. :)

    Design Techniques Spreadsheet

There is a gorgeous confetti soap on youtube that is really more of an abstract painting. That may be the one you mentioned.

It's been a week and the paste is still thick

Just an update on this. I loved your article. It has so much information. After reading, I did the test with 1% lather in water. It came up 8.6. Then my husband found the paper strips and three tests came out in the 10 range. I think it's fair to say my ph meter is flawed. I'm hoping a...

    Lye Only?

I've used my glass measuring cups in a pinch, but not for lye because once dissolved, it looks like water. I have plastic cups for those that look completely different than my other dishes. I read about someone whose husband tried to drink the water by mistake, and have separated my dishes for...

    Another newbie *waves hello*

Hi Kittish, Congratulations on your first batch of soap. I'm relatively new to the forums as well, but I've been making CP and CPOP soaps for awhile. Not long after I started soapmaking I had a milk soap turn out with white spots. I had used lye from a different source, and it hadn't...

    My first batches

I don't really have anything to add, but making your first soap is exciting, so congratulations. :)

    Infusions in LS

I will read it. I could swear I did, but either it's late and my memory is vegged, or I missed it. Thanks for the reminder. I bought the meter to make sure products were safe, so I need to figure it out. We've been using the soap and it seems fine. I stored the rest so we can see any changes...

    Infusions in LS

Ph I've been placing the meter into the soap to a line where your supposed to stop. It's a Homdox portable.

    Infusions in LS

I finally did it I finally bit the bullet and tried again. I used the instructions on the page you gave me before. It came to a thick trace really fast, and when a few bubbles flew, I left it for the night. Tested, no zap. I was surprised the paste was hard and not soft. This morning I added...
