    Palm, PKO & Peanut ONLY?

Your recipe will give you a reasonable bar, won't be super hard, but if that's what goes locally as far as ingredients go for it, Soapmaker gives me quite a moisturising and stable lathering bar at 5% discount

the top picture is very magnified so hard to tell, but the bottom one looks like ash to me

    Dropping the lye discount

With CP, you can not make sure which oils don't get saponified it is a mixture of all of your oils, it's different with HP because the soap is already cooked/saponification has taken place and then you add your extra oil which is going to be always the unsaponified oil. So the answer is no in...

In search of a moisturizing soap recipe

I found this old thread, and I feel I need to say something about the original and the posts. First of all soap is not there to moisturise the skin, it sole purpose is to cleanse without stripping off the natural oils and we achieve that by superfatting. The only thing that will moisturise...

    HARD bar recipes?

When measuring out you should be using proper scales and not a cup, in such a small batch it is so easy to overmeasure the lye you would only need a small extra amount and you'd be looking at lye heavy soap. Please never ever use cups to measure your ingredients, but invest into a good set of...

    Lye?

First I would suggest for you to get a book something like the "Soapmakers Companion" and read it from cover to cover to understand the basics, the millers website is excellent starting point as well. Forums have got a lot of info but you still have to know a the very basics Etelka

    pvc round mold- gel question

Overheating depends on a lot of factors, my pvc never overheated and I would pack them in an esky. I have abandoned the idea of round soaps bc I hated the lining bit

    neem oil

I've never used it in soap, I think it is more beneficial in a leave on product than a washaway product. I've made a salve using neem at 5%, also included emu oil and hazelnut oil scented it with teatree and lavender eo Etelka

    infrared thermometer

It's no secret at all! I do RTCP, but different to the tutorial on this board. My oils are around 50/50 hard/liquid, so after measure I partially melt them, just to soften up the coconut, palm, lard, tallow, cocobutter or whatever I am using (bear in mind these are not all included in the...

I changed it cause right now I am down in the dumps about the subject, the truth is I am heading towards a hysterectomy, which is quite upsetting and unsettling for me  , but yes you're right it was a good line and so true

When do you package your soaps?

Outside of my home I only sell wholesale, so my soap goes to them and they put their own packaging on. I don't do markets but sell from home so people come to me and I have them in these wooden trays which are labelled with the soap discription.

    gelling an entire batch

I asked DH and he said it will be ok at 60C(140F), all plastic would be ok at such low temperature, except polyethalane thetrite(sp?) which is like the fruit juice bottles, they are just borderline on around 60+ a few degrees. That mold looks like it holds about 18 bars so maybe 1/2 hour is...

    Buffalo tallow

I would kill for some deer tallow, but don't know where to get it here in Melbourne. I bought a bar a few years ago in a small country town, the lady got it from a hunter, and it was amazing. For our use I try to add beef tallow or lard to my soaps and they are so nice. I have even put...

    Crazy molds

Wouldn't they be easy to line with some plastic or freezer paper and just let the sides hang over, and not worry about the ends, that way the soap would just pop out. BTW how on earth did you cut them in half? Etelka

    Fav Exfoliant?

Oatmeal is my favourite. The sugar is interesting, I would have thought that it would melt in the raw soap from the heat. I tried sugar once not for the scrubbiness but it is supposed to add to the lather, and it heated up like crazy, so I decided it wasn't worth it Etelka
