    Shaving Cream like Cremo?

Thanks for the feedback everyone! Deanna is right in that Cremo is a shaving lotion rather than a soap. Ivanstein, just curious...why is a shave soap better? I think my husband likes Cremo because it is a moisturizing lotion. Heck, as a woman, some of the best shaving products I've used to shave...

    Shaving Cream like Cremo?

My husband uses Cremo (a creamy shaving cream...it's not a traditional wet shaving soap) that he shaves with. I would love to make something like it for him. Has anyone made a shaving cream like this? If so, would you be willing to share a recipe or technique?

How Many of You "Heat and Hold" For Your Lotion Recipes?

Jcandleattic, that's awesome to know! Thanks for the tips. :-P

How Many of You "Heat and Hold" For Your Lotion Recipes?

Okay, so another question... What are you using to heat and hold both your oil & water phase? SCM uses two crockpots as double-boilers. I am leaning towards that, as it's kind of a pain to babysit two double-boilers on the stove, but I'm not sure this would work if I eventually want to make...

    Coco Betaine

3 cups of your dry mix (not including SLSA). Try adding 1 T of SLSA to your dry mix and 1 tsp of Coco B as part of your wet ingredients. Add the Coco B last, as it will start activation, then mix really well. If your mix is expanding after that, then you have some other wet ingredient that is...

    Emulsifier Lotionpro 165

BTW, SwiftcraftMonkey has a "Lotion Making 101" e-book as well. I highly recommend it! http://swiftcraftymonkey.blogspot.com/2010/12/lotionmaking-101-e-book-is-finally-done.html

How Many of You "Heat and Hold" For Your Lotion Recipes?

I've been loving SwiftCraftMonkey's e-book, "Lotion Making 101" these past few months. Made my first, true body butter cream the other day and I'm in love! Her recipe technique uses a true water phase, oil phase, and cool down phase, which includes a 20 minute "heat and hold" process to help...

    Bath Bomb Drying Time

I would say if they were fine before adding the extra 1/2 tsp of FO, then that must be the culprit. If you need more FO and they are now too wet, consider cutting back a little on your other liquids.

    SO done with slsa!

Don't give up! It took me a good, solid 6 months of making BBs almost EVERY DAY to come up with a reliable recipe. I literally made a sample batch of BBs, which gave me 2 bombs, almost every day and tested them to see what worked and didn't for me. This included how well they molded, dried...

Two Color Layers for Rebatched Soap?

Actually, probably the best way to do this is to have 2 crockpots! :headbanging:

Two Color Layers for Rebatched Soap?

Hmmm...I was thinking about putting in a pre-warmed oven. I've also seen where someone mixed color into only half of the rebatch batter while it was in the crockpot and then gently swirled the colored and uncolored batter together before glopping it all in the mold at one time. I wonder if I...

    Coco Betaine

Yes, I do...just like jcandleattic, I'd use 1 tsp to a 3 cup mix. Add it last, as it has water in it and will start a slight activation. Mix well. I like that along with SLSA it adds a little bit more bubble "umph".

Two Color Layers for Rebatched Soap?

This seems like an easy answer, but I always over think things... I'm melting down some CP soap for a rebatch and would like to have 2 different color layers in the soap: a darker color on the bottom of the mold and a lighter one on top. I'm only coloring half of the soap and leaving the...

    Why make soap?

I got into making soap that transitioned from making bath bombs. My 16yr niece loves LUSH and I was appalled at spending $7-$9 per bath bomb and thought, "Hey, I saw this somewhere...I can learn how to do this myself!" and the rest is history. :-) After I started, I really learned to appreciate...

Soap Molds w/Dividers - How to remove?

So I tried out a new slab soap mold w/dividers in it this week and had a devil of a time getting the soap out. I know you have to slide versus pull, but it was still a bear. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make this easier? I've heard some people rub cyclomethicone or an oil on...

    Piping on older soap

I made a batch of soap a few days ago and didn't like how the tops turned out, so I cut them off. I would like to pipe a CP topping on them, but don't know if this would work on soap that has already saponified for a few days. Usually I pipe a topping at the same time I make soap, so I'm...

    Mechanic's/Gardener's soap

I made some lovely gardener's soap this summer and used ground loofah, dried orange peel, ground walnut powder, and poppy seeds. I scented w/lemongrass EO and it turned out great. Very long-lasting. I used this recipe as a reference...

    Stearic Streaks or Soda Ash?

Yep, I'm pretty sure this batch is lye heavy after seeing this link; it looks just like mine: http://www.newenglandsoaps.com/lye-heavy-soaps/ Guess I could start looking into how to make this into laundry soap. What I really need is some pH strips to be sure.

    Stearic Streaks or Soda Ash?

Now I'm beginning to wonder if it IS sodium hydroxide???!!! I grabbed a piece and did a solid "zap" test on the white spots...I held my tongue there for a couple of seconds and definitely felt a tingling/stinging. When I held my tongue on the clear/solid areas, nothing. I tried to wash...
