How do you organize your soapin' gear?

Ah! So the concensus is... I'm normal and not a messy slob! Thank goodness. I guess I will simply try to make sense out of my plastic bins, and I LOVE the idea of sticky labels on top of fragrance. I keep mine in a divided box (I bought small lotion jars in it, so I can put a few FO bottles in...

How do ya'll pkg your soap?

Just wanted to add I currently use fat quarters of reclaimed vintage fabric to wrap my soap in. It comes in lots of stripes, polka dots, and pretty calicos, it's cheap, and it is a nice way to up-cycle. It breathes well, and if you choose nice groupings of colors, it looks really fun and...

    Share your favorite scents/best-sellers?

Thanks for all the responses! I've added most of the scents you all mentioned to my next batch of supplies orders so that I can try them. I am going to give WSP another chance, now that I have some direction. :)

where do I find decorative paper?

It is a little more expensive, but I get rolls of paper from Paper Source. (If I'm really feeling rich, I'll get the individual sheets, but they have fantastic rolls of paper too.) They have beautiful patterns that look upscale. If you're not going for that look, good ol' brown parcel paper (the...

How do you organize your soapin' gear?

I originally started with large plastic storage bins... but I've accumulated enough stuff (translation: become completely obsessed with the craft and cannot stop purchasing things!!) to be overwhelmed. I need this stuff to fit nicely into a closet, and be easy to find. I've been smart enough...

    Slab or log mold?

I guess I'm thinking of getting a divider slab mold, you would think I was a six year old if you saw my soap cuts! One more question... if you have a divider mold, insert the dividers before or after? And do the dividers interfere with lining it? Sorry to hijack my own thread :/

    what scale do you use?

It's this one, except mine is silver: http://www.amazon.com/Escali-Primo-Digi ... 415&sr=8-1 Sorry I don't have the model number, I'm in the middle of moving four hours away, and my soap stuff is in the NEW place, and I'm in the OLD place. Frustrating. But it's definitely this one. Simple...

    what scale do you use?

I've been soaping for a few years now (mostly in 1 lb - 5lb batches) and I use a good ol' 11 lb escali that I originally purchased... I probably need to graduate and purchase a better one at this point. I've never had an over-lyed batch of soap, or a batch of soap that appears to be off...

    Slab or log mold?

Which do you think creates prettier bars? It may be the quality of my log mold, but when I make a soap log and cut it, the bars come out a little wonky (because of crooked cuts) and obviously the top has texture, which I don't always like. I've never had a slab/flat mold, but I'm considering...

    Share your favorite scents/best-sellers?

To be honest, my worst luck has been from WSP, specifically in citrus and florals. (I would like to add that in every other respect, their company is awesome and I love ordering from them.) I'd love to find a decent floral. I can handle a tricky trace, so I don't care about performance during...

    Share your favorite scents/best-sellers?

Would any of you be willing to share your current best-selling/favorite scents? I understand if many of you don't want to for business reasons. I'm just having issues wading through all of the available scents, and I've resorted to making mostly non-scented soap! Fragrance is pretty expensive...

    Any benefits to no-gel?

Bahahahaha Carebear! Mine spontaneously gel after a freezer treatment ALL the time. Frustrating! Thanks for the info everyone. You covered all of my main aesthetic concerns!

    Any benefits to no-gel?

I always make sure my soaps gel, but I've been reading a lot of topics about room temperature CP, followed by no gel. Can anyone summarize the differences in no gel soap, either in color, texture, ability to hold fragrance, performance "in the shower", etc? And does yours ever gel...

    I can't find the link!

I am looking for the link to a site where someone posted pictures of CP soap made out of individual oils, i.e. 100% Olive Oil Soap, 100% Coconut Oil Soap, etc... I tried using the search function here and on google, with no luck. Anyone have it saved that would be willing to share it with...

    Burn Salve

I am infusing some olive oil with calendula, lavender, and comfrey right now. So probably that, beeswax, and I have some hard oils on hand like shea butter and cocoa butter that I'll use a mixture of. Oh, and I may put a teaspoon or two of lavender essential oil in there, I figure it can't hurt...

    Burn Salve

Thanks dagmar! I don't plan on selling, it's for personal use (and maybe a few friends.) That's a pretty easy base recipe, I'll formulate one tonight!

    Burn Salve

Hello! I have never made a salve before, let alone a burn salve. I have ridiculous amounts of hard and liquid oils from soaping and lotion making, as well as dried herbs. Any suggestions/easy recipes to get me started on making salves, and specifically one for minor burns? Thanks in...

    Recipe affecting mold release?

I have these lovely decorative molds (heavy duty ones from brambleberry, I was lucky enough to purchase them before they were discontinued. They're fantastic!) that are sometimes a challenge to work with. I line them with mineral oil to aid with release, which helps. However, it seems that...

    45% OO Soap

I soaped with my lye solution at about 37%. I guess I'll just keep a close eye on it, so I don't have to cut cement! Thanks!

    How can I tell?

Sometimes soap on a stick turns out okay, sometimes it doesn't. Best bet? Zap test it in a couple of days. If it's zappy, you'll have to attempt rebatch or pitch it. If it's not zappy, it'll be ugly, but useable :)
