Thread titles and my very strange mind.

Naming Help Don't they already have names? I don't know if you should be renaming your employees.

Near miss with lye and honey [insert facepalm emoticon]

Yeah. The gods of soaping sure were smiling on me. So lucky! Seriously wish I'd filmed it somehow, it truly was a spectacular reaction. And one I'd be happy to never ever duplicate. Definitely lesson learned! I wound up adding my honey at thin trace/emulsification. I'll have to try adding it...

    Mica line first attempt soap

Oh wow they look awesome. I love how the mica stands out so well against the charcoal - great colour choices!

Near miss with lye and honey [insert facepalm emoticon]

My buttermilk honey oat soap recipe that I'm tinkering with uses honey at a whopping 5% total oil weight. I can't remember where I initially got that figure but I like the colour and faint smell it adds to the finished soap so I've been sticking with it. Aaaaanyway I recalled seeing a thread on...

    Christmas 2016

Panic stations! Panic stations! (yeah I procrastinated and now I'm behind on my soaping schedule. Thank goodness today and tomorrow are going to be cool-ish, I can crack out a few batches. I hate soaping when it's hot.)

    How to use woad?

I know that the Modern Soapmaking website had some info about using botanicals and the like for colouring soap - that's where I got the info I used for making an alkanet infusion. Might be helpful: http://www.modernsoapmaking.com/join-jo-coloring-soap-naturally/

Looking for a soft creamy olive type fragrance

I couldn't find that one on the Nature's Garden website. Is there another NG that I'm missing? Thanks for the recommendation. I had a quick play on the NG website and it looks like I'd be paying $35.55 US for shipping. That comes out to almost $50 for me for shipping alone - better than most...

Looking for a soft creamy olive type fragrance

I'm sorry, I don't know how to better describe the fragrance. I was cleaning out my old shower gels and stuff the other day and came across a bottle of Palmolive Naturals Shower Milk in Milk and Olive (a discontinued product but I was able to find an old listing here) and I'd love to try the...

Advice regarding aloe gel, vegetable purees etc. how much is too much?

I've tweaked the recipe a bit. Would this be a better balance? 30% Tallow 20% Olive Oil 15% Coconut Oil 10% Avocado Oil 10% Sweet Almond Oil 5% Castor Oil 5% Shea Butter 5% Cocoa Butter This is mostly just a result of playing around on soapee.com with the oils I have available. I'm open to any...

Would adding an exfoliant give you the effect you're after? Something like pumice perhaps?

Advice regarding aloe gel, vegetable purees etc. how much is too much?

Hi Susie, I've found multiple recommendations on best usage rates for coconut oil so I was going with 20% (having seen that number pop up frequently). What would you recommend dropping it to?

    Just had an awesome idea!

You could add uranium and market it as Beverly Beauty Soap :P (Just in case this went over anyone's head, Beverly is the name of a uranium mine in Australia)

Advice regarding aloe gel, vegetable purees etc. how much is too much?

Thanks Earlene, Will definitely count pulp/solids as part of the liquid. I intend to strain it through my fine mesh seive so I don't get too many chunky bits. I'm not sure what the lye concentration works out to (not 100% on the terminology yet) but the full liquid component is 33% oil weight...

Advice regarding aloe gel, vegetable purees etc. how much is too much?

Does anyone have a hard-and-fast rule for adding food type additives to soaps? I'm interested in doing an aloe vera and cucumber soap. My theory was that I could replace half of the water amount with a blend of aloe vera gel and cucumber puree (with a little extra water to make it fluid enough)...

Thought I'd jump in the deep end

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone :) Arimara, I would love to age some of my soaps for 12 months and give them another try. I need to set up some kind of storage for them so that I don't get too much scent transfer from my smelly batches to my unscented batches. I'll admit I'm getting ahead...

Thought I'd jump in the deep end

Hi everyone, I'm from South Australia and I got into soap making back in April. Initially it was an experiment - I'd found a soap I liked that cost $7 per bar, and I wanted to see if I could reproduce it. I definitely jumped straight in the deep end - my first batch of soap was a 2 kg batch of...
