My soy scented candles seem to have a better scent throw after they've been aged a few weeks after making them. Is it just me, or do candles get better with time? If so, how much time is ideal for optimum scent throw?

I'd like to make a gunpowder scented candle. Has anyone here done that? I've got some .12ga shells I could empty out but I can imagine that ending VERY badly with police and the fire department getting involved. Any ideas?
