Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Yeah over the last few years my hair haaaaates being washed but looks too dirty to let it slide. I tried all kinds of shampoos and whatnot and the only thing I can think of to do is try to make my own and be in charge of what goes in it. It's terrible in the winter.

Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Do you have any ingredients to suggest? I thought the potassium cocoate had been rendered into a surfactant once it had been properly cooked and diluted, but I'm not a chemist; that was my impression...

Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Also I rechecked the site and it is potassium cocoate, dunno why I confused it. I found where some folks suggested adding citric acid to things to bring the ph down. So I have a lot to consider...

Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Thanks for the tip! The cocoate thing is confusing but it appeared that you'd only need two ounces of it for a bottle. I would stick with store bought but it's astronomically expensive for the only brand I found that doesn't have stuff like propylene glycol and 200 sulfates... It's like 13...

Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Well that answers that!! So thank you all, the shampoo bars will be soap bars! I went to soapqueens' site and she had a recipe for Argan oil shampoo. So I will try for that. Which leads to another question; the recipe calls for sodium cocoate which I'm sure y'all know is potassium hydroxide and...

Shampoo bars (or not to shampoo bar!)

Hello all! After some time I put together a great recipe for shampoo bars, I have dry hair and I made it all superfatty and it smells great and I'm hopeful! I have used a lard based soap in my hair for a while to gauge its effects on my mop and while it looks great it feels a touch on the dry...

    "Room temperature" method

Thank you for that! I understood ph would be as high as ten but I didn't know it could be even more! I feel much better! Also I have been choosing oils and additives that were suitable for my dry self but the ph thing still gave me pause...! Plus I'm all about the superfat! I will be leaving a...

    "Room temperature" method

    "Room temperature" method

Hi and thanks for the info!! To answer, I am new to soaping (have done two rebatches, four cp and six hp and two shampoo bars...that's all so far) and my understanding is that while a ph of 7-10 is great for soap, the higher the ph, the harder it can be on your skin and hair. I've done a lot of...

    "Room temperature" method

Has anyone noticed if their oh us a bit high in this method? I super fat at at least 10% and employ a water discount of no more than 10%; i do the zap test and while it doesn't zap, per se, but I get something.... There but not a zap! And it goes away in a day... Yet I wonder if my ph is high...

To saponify or not with this oil

Thank you all for the thoughts, I feel better about the situation and checked the oil, which smelled just fine and I was t going near Castile soap yet so I will be moderate in my use! Whew! Now I'm concerned because our order is in but instead of lye I have received potassium hydroxide, so I' e...

To saponify or not with this oil

Hello all you knowledgable types... My mom and I will be making our first cp soap next week and I pulled all our supplies together and found to my horror that the exp date for the olive oil (organic) that we have is for a month from now..! I hate to waste it but I don't want to use it if it will...
