I decided to rebatch a couple of my soaps cause they started "leaking" lye around the edges. I added water and powered milk as the bars were sitting out for awhile (1 month or so). Now the rebatch is super soft, even after a week! I wonder if this is normal? Did I mess up with adding the...

How would you add sulfur to CP soap? Also, would it smell bad? I remember sulfur smelling like rotten eggs!

Anyone? I saw a posting similar to this in the past, but I was unable to find it using the search. I don't want to have to toss these batches!

Two batches of soap I've made are now leaking lye! I suppose it's lye cause there is a zap on the substance. At first I thought it was oils, but after sitting for a month, I zap tested it. This is odd because the second day of coming out of the mold I zap tested it and it was fine - no leaky...

I was wondering if it would be better to rebatch CP soap adding the milk then so that nothing burns and one might get the max amount of milk added? Just a thought, anyone with experience or ideas :wink:

Argh, ash!! I've been soaping with PVC pipe and have gotten ash on the top - which wasn't so bad. I wrap the pipe with a towel (my house runs cold in the winter) and the top. Ash on top. Then I tried capping the pipe with plastic wrap and a rubberband. Ash was still there, but only a ring...

Just a little rant for today... I've already made two batches of soap stiring by hand for hours on and off - hours!! I still loved making the soap, but hours was just too much! So I broke down and got a stick blender - 15 minutes!! :P Holy cow, was it ever easy! Now I'm looking forward...

Would it be possible to add baking soda at trace or would that chemically mess with the soap?

Ah, I think I might have found the answer, thanks to another thread: http://soapmakingforum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7297 It could have been that I took it out of the mould too soon! Lesson learned!

I think that lack of insulation had to be it, although I'm not entirely sure. For my newest batch I used a towel for the bottom to keep the bottom warm. After I popped it out, it so far does not appear that it will crumble. I will know for sure after I slice it. :D

I made some soap that looked fine, but when I took it out of the PVC pipe mould, it crumbled at one (bottom) of the ends. It was made with 32 oz of oils consisting of 50% lard, 25% coconut oil and 25% soybean oil which was run through the soapcalc. I know that it is suggested not to insulate...

How much do you usually add per lb of oils?

Just wondering, what kinds of materials have you more experienced soapers used to produce colors? So far, I've decided to keep things simple for starters and haven't added coloring. I'll use colors later :D

Would the smell be due to the cocoa butter and not the chocolate?
