New Soaping Room & Christmas Soaps

Beautiful soaps, really like the embeds in the first one, and the swirl on that orange clove is to die for

    Holiday soaps this year

Thanks a lot :3. Yup , Calendula. I made the same bar last year(orange patchouli with a camomile tea and honey water swap) and my mom really liked it, but said she wished there was 'more of that pretty flower on top' , so i really went for it with the petals this time round, lol.

    Holiday soaps this year

Finished up the last of my soaps for family and friends last night and figured i would post some pictures. They're nothing special, and the lighting in my room doesn't do them any favours, but i'm more or less happy with them.

This soap should be ok, right?

So i was making the last batch of my christmas soap (very late, at this point its new years soap) and colossal fool that i am decided "sure i have enough oils for four pounds" , without actually checking anything. I had my lye mixture all set (Strong tea infusion, using all my remaining tea...

Bathbomb's with fragrance oil , itching skin?

I actually just made a plain mondo bath bomb using the same ratios as per usual, just no colour and scent. It worked perfectly fine, left my skin feeling soft and warm and wonderful after the bath. I did a little more experimenting and discovered that the only one that burns in mondo form is...

Bathbomb's with fragrance oil , itching skin?

I guess i ruled out the dry ingredients because i often have just plain baking soda in my water, and have used other peoples bath bombs a bunch of times without problem. Thanks for the tip though, i'll try making a plain one and plain one with clay added, see if either of those make me...

Bathbomb's with fragrance oil , itching skin?

I broke the batches up and made four different bombs each with its own scent(orange eo + champagine fo, coconut cream fo, chocolate espresso fo and buttered mint fo), and they're all a little itchy. Unless i'm majorly missing something, BB doesn't have a skin safe usage rate on their fo's...

Bathbomb's with fragrance oil , itching skin?

So after years of making soap i decided to give some bath bombs a try. They worked out fairly well, had a nice uniform shape with no warts, even colour, nicely scented and a great fizz when plopped into the bath. I made them in two sizes, the plastic molds from brambleberry and the "mondo"...

Sudden request, unsure what to do.

Thanks for all the advice. She seemed more interested in the concept as a whole than making that specific loaf of soap. I gave her some links to Soap Queen's four part cold process video, and some other bloggy type websites. She does a lot of crafty homemade stuff, so I think she'll be fine...

Sudden request, unsure what to do.

I might have to go with that. I diffidently don't want to turn anyone off of soaping, but at the same time, I don't want someone to go for too much too soon, and not know the basics. If a lye heavy bar went out as a gift from someone who i got 'started' i would feel really horrible.

Sudden request, unsure what to do.

So i logged on to Facebook this morning after posting a picture of my last seasonal soap this year to find this message from my best friends mother. "Your soap looked lovely and what a great gift idea. Would you be willing to share your recipe knowing that I would like to do that too...

What soapy mistake have you made today?

Not today, but my last batch a couple days ago i decided to try dusting the top of my soap with mica, instead of doing an oil swirl. I stood and looked at my strainer and thought "These holes look too big, i should probably not try this" but despite this my hand still put some mica in and gave...

Metal strainer fizzed on contact with lye solution?

It didn't go black ,but to be fair, I got that sucker runing under water pretty quickly after the mixture was poured in it. Grumble grumble, don't trust walmart labeling I guess. :(

Metal strainer fizzed on contact with lye solution?

My old strainer was looking worn and old so i picked up a cheap one from walmart today, making sure it said stainless steel. Strained it through just a few moments ago and the strainer released an audiable fizzing sound....i'm guessing the lable was inaccurate or something and it contains some...

Anyone else in the habit of changing their plans partway through?

If the soap doesn't have any specific purpose set aside for it? Made some wine soap with pinot and champagne fragrance that I originally intended to be one solid colour (beige/yellow). Part way through pouring the oils i thought: "Wouldn't it be pretty if I did a few different yellows/beige...

    DoS or something less serious

You know, despite having been making soap on an off(darn if it isn't expensive for me) for the better part of three years, i've never really done much as far as using anything other than full water. I just ran it through with a 2:1 ratio and it still seemed like a reasonable amount of water...

    DoS or something less serious

Phew, thanks for helping to calm me down, this week has been rough, and has included a 7 pound bag of coconut oil rupturing everywhere in the midst of stick blending...a possible failed soap was the last straw

    DoS or something less serious

Edited to add links to the soap itself. The soap accelerate a bit , so im thinking maybe some eo didnt get fully blended...hopefully?

    DoS or something less serious

I have to admit, i'm a bit upset(with myself, or possibly my oils) as i type this. Four days ago i made(what i think is) a beautiful soap intended as a gift for my mother on Christmas. I've only just been able to convince her that all soaps, every single bar soap she has ever used in her life...
