    Body Oil

I guess I am off on a new adventure. I looked into making LS, but decided that since my favorite bar works well, that maybe I should just try to make some lotion, but then I bought a thing of Palmer's Body Oil and it is doing great things for my skin, so I decided it would be easier and I think...

Coconut scent like the tanning lotion

I was using this wonderful lotion that I purchased, but on a whim decided to pick up some body oil. Now I am sold on it, it seems to work wonderfully with my skin, so of course I was thinking "Wonder if I could make this myself?" And then decided I would really, really love for it to smell like...

LS better for skin than CP???

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I've posted! I've been super busy and have just been doing the basics as far as soap goes (you know, just enough of my favorite cp soap to get me by). Anyway, I may have some time now to experiment a little more and I was wondering what people's opinion of...

    Dry skin

Hi everyone, it's been awhile since I've posted anything, things have been crazy busy here. Anyway I was hoping someone could help me out with some ideas. I've made the same basic recipe for since I started making soap in 2016 and it has worked really good up until a few months ago. It used to...

    Storing soap in humid bathroom

I live in the south (Alabama) and it is VERY humid here. Add to that fact that we do not have central cooling and you can see my dilemma. I can store my soap in the bathroom during the winter without any problems, but last year once summer came, I had soap start to develop doss. I am pretty sure...

    Dandelion/Honey recipe?

Because dandelions are in bloom here, I am experimenting with them in soap. I have already made a batch of my favorite soap with dandelion tea substituted for the water. I also have some dandelion olive oil that is ready today so I went out and picked more dandelions and made tea to go with it...

Still amazed at the difference gel stage makes

The square bars and the "soap" bars are from the same batch of soap. The only difference is the soap bars were individual silicone molds and the bars were in a silicone mold inside a wooden mold. Obviously the bars gelled, but it still amazes me that this is the same batch! I know, simple things...

    Variety pack

Hi everyone. I am looking at wanting to incorporate essential oils into my cp soaps. The problem is, I have no idea which ones I like :???: so I seen on one of the sites that sell soaping supplies that they have a variety or sample pack, I think they are in 1/2 oz sizes and was thinking this...

Finally tried a goat's milk batch

I haven't been able to soap for a little while now. A couple weeks ago, I finally got the chance. So I made a batch of my regular charcoal/salt bars, a vanilla scented batch (the brown ones), and finally tried my hand at a goats milk soap (the cream colored). The goats milk wasn't as hard as I...

    Storing Lye

I was wondering if I could store lye in the freezer? I live in Alabama and the humidity is bad here right now. The last couple of batches of soap I made, I noticed the lye had a couple small chunks and I am assuming it is from the humidity (I store it in the original Essential Depot container...

    Soap bag, bad idea?

I was thinking of making a couple of these for my homemade soap, but was wondering if my soap wouldn't last as long since it would be in a wet rag. I was thinking it would be nice to just be able to throw them in the wash. The plan would be to make the bag and put a string through one end to...

It was a soapmaking kind of day!

I made another batch of mechanic soap and tried a new recipe. I started to come on here and get opinions about the new recipe, but decided to just bite the bullet and see what happens. Fingers crossed. (New recipe was 75% lard 20% oo 5% castor)

    Yay!!!Got a compliment

I finally let a family friend try a bar of my soap. After a couple of weeks, I called and asked how she liked it and she said she really liked it, it cleaned really good and she was saving it to use on just her face because she didn't want to waste it lol. Well she then told me that she had went...

    Fragrance oil expiration

I was getting ready to make some soap and noticed that most of the fragrance oil I purchased (second hand) is expired. So, I guess you know my next question, can I still use it? Would it make the soap not safe and if it did, would you be able to tell? Thanks!

    Lard/OO/Castor

Tomorrow, I plan on making a batch of soap with the following: 75% Lard 20% OO 5% Castor No fo, but I might 1 tsp ppo sugar for bubbles, but I haven't made up my mind on that yet. Anyone made this and got some feedback on it?

    Castor Oil

I've been doing a little research on Castor Oil and I have not found a definite answer yet. Does Castor oil only increase bubbles if you use Coconut Oil?

    Lard or Coconut Laundry Soap?

As I was running out of my laundry detergent made with 100% CO soap, I knew today would be the day I had to make more. I decided last minute to make a 100% Lard soap and see how the two compare, as I have seen laundry bars for sale that are Lard. I did the same as with the CO and made it with 0%...

    Sugar and Salt

Since I tried my salt bars, I really, really like that they are like a brick in the shower, BUT I like the creaminess of my original batch better. While I am kicking around some ideas of experiments, I wanted to make sure I understand sugar and salt as additives. Here is what I THINK I know...

    Salt Scrub

I am wanting to make a super simple salt scrub. The plan is 1/2 cup coconut oil, 1 cup epsom salt. I am wanting to use the Crafters Choice Vanilla Cream Fragrance Oil that I have in it. I will weigh out how much half a cup is and then figure out how much fragrance oil to add, but do I use the...
