My Soapy Christmas - pics heavy :)

Congrats on the flower shop soap gig! That is awesome and the soaps look whimsical and delightful. I like the one with the green that looks like a tree design, very cool. I admire your work ethic!

    My Christmas gifts!

Really like the wash cloth idea. I've got a lot of cotton and this is the perfect thing to do with it. Thanks!

HP: to stir, or not to stir?

I don't stir. My best HP bars come from pouring the mixture into the crockpot or stainless steel pot (for the oven) and leaving it be until it has completely gelled. I stir when I add my superfat and fragrance oil. I don't usually water discount. I have done water discount with HP and my...

    Soap changes colour to purple!!!

I'm sure it's the coconut oil. I purchased a huge vat of coconut oil from a supplier once and it didn't turn colors but when I soaped I would end up with immediate soap seize as soon as I added the lye. It, too, seemed to be coconut oil. To be sure, I had to go naked like you, eliminating all...

    Christmas Soaps

And the award goes to... Your soap is just GRAND! Absolutely artistic! I cannot stop looking at all the detail. Loved the cake as well. All soapmakers want their soaps to be used, but honestly I would buy it and not use it, too pretty.

Wow! Those are some super-sized soaps! I'd stay at your booth. It all looks lovely.

    Sugars and Bubbles

Like Dennis, I add the sugar to my water and stir until its dissolved then add my lye. I once added the sugar after adding the lye and I got that same clumpy mess.

    Gorgeous!

    Funfetti

I love the homemade sprinkle idea. Much better than buying the sugar sprinkles; sometimes they melt and makes the soap ugly. Your loaf looks great!

    Red palm oil

I've made a ton of soap with Red Palm Oil. I purchased mine several years ago, when Red Palm oil was cheap. I've experienced it all, the yellow lather, the scent that I didn't like, the fading of color. With much experimentation, I finally got it right and have made some lovely bars and lots...

    Needing help on Water Discount

Assuming that you've ran all of this through a lye calculator, you would begin reducing by going back to soapmaker 101 and make sure that you're properly suited up, goggles, gloves, long sleeves etc... because you are working with very concentrated lye solution by adding less water. Use your...

    I was so pleased until...S.O.B.

Oh Dear, I didn't see your post/pic where you say it overheated and turned gray. I must have missed something. Why did it turn gray?

    I was so pleased until...S.O.B.

Pretty. Don't beat yourself up. Your soap will still be nice. In the future, wait for about an hour before applying the plastic wrap. This is what I do. I just cover my top with the wrap, it doesn't usually sink down to touch the soap but if it does the soap is firmer and less likely to...

How about a little fizzle up in here!

 I had to blush about my bath bombs being perfection. That compliment is huge. The truth is, I'm always working to try and perfect them. I do buy from others and there are some awesome bath bomb makers out there in the handmade world. I will buy commercial from Lush and Bomb Cosmetics...

    Bar sizes

The bar is beautiful. It is hefty at 8 oz.but I like a big thick soap. Upon first cut, my bars usually weigh about 7oz and are 1 1/2 inch thick. But upon cure, the soap usually weighs 6.4- 6.6 and that's before I started discounting my water in my recipes. The bar will surely last!

How about a little fizzle up in here!

Pinkxpressions I use regular oxides. I believe I purchased from Texas Natural Supply. I also buy from Brambleberry. I'm happy that you all like them.
