    Break the rules soap variation

I have only just found out about the recipe known as Break the Rules which involves 75% coconut oil and 25% cocoa butter. Since I loved the the lather of my 100% coconut oil soap but found the 20% SF still too drying, I am intrigued to feel the difference of adding another ingredient. Has...

Hello all Can I have some salt bar advice please? The recipe was 80% coconut oil 10% avocado oil 10% sweet almond oil Total oil weight is 300g Salt 200g Lye 41.7g Water 120g I only had premade lye of 66g plus 190g water (25.78% equivalent) so I set the lye concentration on soap calc to...

    Toxic petals?

I have been investigating the possibility of using dried botanicals for decorating my soaps and I came across websites selling natural confetti made from dried delphiniums. They are very pretty colours but surely these would be toxic? Does anyone know for sure?

Hello all, it's been a while... Has anyone successfully made a batch is soap without a stick blender and with a relatively short amount of hand stirring, ie to very lightest trace at most?

    Residue from yoghurt

Hi all I have noticed in my recent batches of soap ( now 4-6 weeks old) that if I repeatedly wash my hands with them, say, three times in a row ( while I was assessing lather etc) they leave a small amount of smooth white residue on my skin. The only way I can describe it is that it's like...

    CP Separating layers

A short while ago I came across a website here in the UK which sells soaps made from 50% coconut oil and 50% rapeseed oil. This intrigued me as I had read rapeseed can be very prone to DOS at high levels and I know coconut would not normally be used at that level in soap for skin. They also...

    Happy accidents

Just thought I'd share my latest soap success which turned out be a happy accident. About three weeks ago I made not one, but two batches of slightly different soaps each (I thought) containing 10% coconut oil. Turns out I had picked up a large container of Shea butter instead of coconut...

    Olive vs avocado in CP

Does anyone think that avocado oil offers enough in terms of unique properties to be worth substituting for some of the olive oil in CP? I see that avocado has a bit more palmitic and less oleic but overall they seem close enough that I wonder if it's worth me trying it.

    SFIC Bases in UK

Does anyone in the UK currently have a supplier in the UK or Europe for SFIC melt and pour bases? Never mind, I just remembered You wish.nl, I'll try them!

Milder Sap value for coconut oil

Okay, either I am being very dim here or there is a huge difference between the soapcalc and ozcalc lye calculators. Yes, I know ozcalc uses a lower sap value for Coconut oil, but 22g difference in weight? I must have made a mistake but I don't know where:confused: Does anyone routinely use...

100% coconut oil soap cure time

I made a 100% coconut oil soap at 20% SF about 7 months ago. Quite early on I dismissed it as far too drying for me and left it alone. I just tried a bar today and it feels fantastic. So, my question is, does anyone else feel this soap recipe needs a REALLY long cure to get milder? I gave...

    Clays for colour

A while ago I purchased clays for colouring my cp soap. The description was vague and I had assumed that they were the natural clays I have seen on BB etc. What I got was 9 packs of kaolin which were coloured with oxides. Am I right in thinking that the Brazilian, French, Moroccan etc clays...

    CP Soap droplets, please help!

Okay, I am prepared for the sound of palms smacking foreheads but I am reaching out to the experienced on this one. I am a relatively new soaper and I decided on a whim to make a room temperature soap last night. I have just taken the cardboard lid off the soap to find the surface covered in...
