Rather specific shave soap and seize problem

Hi everyone So Ive been making and selling some soaps for a few years now and the shaving soap is getting kinda popular. I have this wonderful whiskey and wood fragrance oil that unfortunately seizes pretty aggressively. Here is my shave soap recipe: 40% stearic 25% tallow 25%...

    Rendered tallow from wild animals?

Its not that difficult once you get some. I wet render deer and bear fat in the house under the hood in the kitchen. Wild pig and rabbit are outside (I cant deal with bunny stink) I have loads of deer tallow, pm me and I can probably send you some. I use songwinds shave soap recipe tweak...

    Chicken fat in soap, anyone?

Im with BG, rendered chicken fat is great for cooking, lovely flavor. Ive used schmaltz in soap and its quite soft as was mentioned. It seems very similar to lard and rabbit fat to me. I think itd be great for a liquid soap or 25% max in a bar. The best way though is to use it to...

    Rabbit fat?

Where are you located? I have lots of goat and deer tallow on hand and throughout the year I tend to have bear and wild pig in large quantities also. PM me your info and maybe we can work something out.

    shaving soap

The poof works but it uses up much more soap. One 4 oz puck can last well over 150 shaves with a decent brush and technique.

    Rabbit fat?

    Ho wood

So this has probably been covered but I couldn't find it. Does anyone blend there own rosewood substitute with ho wood and other eos? I have some ho wood and it just doesnt come out with the same scent when I sub it for my eo blends. For instance, I use a bay and rosewood blend for aftershaves...

    Rabbit fat?

A few months late but I thought I could add a bit as I slaughter the rabbits that a few of my friends raise. We just slaughtered 11 on Friday ranging from 16 weeks to 1 year old. After cleaning the "leaf fat" and trimming the fat from between the shoulders we came up with 425 grams of fat...

My first shaving soap is a success!

After numerous tweaks, Ive settled on what I think is the best shave soap Ive used. Its still very simple: 45% CO 45% SA 5% deer tallow 5% lanolin added after the lye The pucks are quite hard, which I prefer and still loads very quickly. Im not sure if there is a big difference...

    Shave soap question

I've had similar results in the pot. I don't know this recipe but when I've had soaps look like that I add scent and SF. Then pack into molds. Haven't had to rebatch yet.

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

So the soap is smelling pretty good. It is still peppermint heavy until I lather it. Once lathered, the lavender really comes through and even the rosemary is there. It makes for lightly scented shave which is what I prefer with my shave soaps. I think I like the shea formula better than the...

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

The peppermint smell has faded quite a bit though there is a prominent sweetness. It's not cloyingly sweet and the herbaceous-ness (herbacity?) barely comes through. I prefer more rosemary but this works for now.

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

Thanks for the coffee tip. I've never used a lot of scents. I've got my go to's and that's it. Now, do you all know a way to clear my palate after 4 or 5 different bourbons? After the first two they all taste great.

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

I will, DeeAnna. Ill lather some up today and see if there's a change. I think I should have some friends smell it and see what they pick up on.

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

Thanks! The aftershave has perfumers alcohol in it so there is no scent but I'm sure the evaporation has a lot to do with it. It's sitting in the drying rack and I'll check it as it cures. EG, the soap was 119 degrees when I added the EOs. I don't mind waitin to see if it changes.

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

I've used that same formula for aftershaves and like it. I'm pretty surprised that the peppermint came out so strong in the soap. Still smells nice even though it's one dimensional. Thanks for the insight. I guess this means I get to make another batch

    HP shave soap EO problem/question

Hi all I made a two pound batch of songwinds shave soap with a little tweak 52% stearic 43% coconut 5% Shea I did not add any glycerin and did the two part saponification method that DeeAnna explains. I added 28 grams of EOs after it had cooked for 20 min and letting it cool for 20...

Hi all Im pretty new to the forum and have been soaping for 6 or 7 years. Recently I put together a dozen gift baskets for clients with some soap, shaving soap and aftershave that I put together along with some other goodies. Since then most of the clients have told me I should look into...
