    Wanted Custom Pull-through Plates

While I've listed it as a 'kit-set' on TradeMe, I'll also be listing individual parts of the kit - since most people can pick up the PVC tube at their local plumbers/Bunnings/Mitre10 etc. And, changing the size of the discs is very easy to do, Just tell me what size you want ! They are...

    Wanted Custom Pull-through Plates

Ah, good - I can easily adjust the size but don't need to then. (We are talking about round plates I hope) We're all metric in NZ, but your #6-32 does sound like a thread type! Ok, I'll check that out and put a plain hole (near the edge if possible) so you can use your rod with a nut each side...

    New Soap Cutter

Hi Melinda48, when you say 'strings' is that actually 'wires'? I always use 8g hi-tensile wire on my cutters, and while they may have a weak point at the loop end, I've never seen them break anywhere else. Can you tell me please, if possible, what gauge of wire is used on your cutter? Thanks...

    Homemade Multi-bar Soap Cutter

I use 8g ( that's probably 'AWG' and it is 0.02" or 0.508mm) on my cutters. It's high-tensile music wire (spring tempered wire) and this size seems to be a good compromise between strength (doesn't keep breaking) and smooth cutting. Smaller diameter would probably give a smoother looking cut...

    Wanted Custom Pull-through Plates

Thanks TashaBird. I can get (galvanized) threaded rod here, not sure if Stainless is available though. However, I'm thinking of using straightened SS rod which is even cheaper than threaded galvanized, and add 5+mm of thread on the end - since I have the tools for that already (used to make...

    Wanted Custom Pull-through Plates

Ah ha! That's good news to hear. Some of the designs I have in mind wont be possible with a single, central rod. Two rods would be easier to use, but would increase the cost of making them. (The length of stainless rod could well cost more than the acrylic disk) A single off-center rod may...

    Wanted Custom Pull-through Plates

Thanks TashaBird ! Perhaps I should just give it a go and make some - then NZers will let me know if they are something they want. I was thinking that PVC would need some sort of 'pusher' to get the soap out after taking the base cover off - but going from your experience that may not be...

    Safe soap cutting tool

Ah, thank you - that does explain it. I'm not a soap maker myself, so I never presume to tell my customers how - or rather, when -to cut their soap, but I sometimes suggest it should be done while it's still relatively soft. Mind you, the cutter use high-tensile wire and as far as I know it...

    Safe soap cutting tool

Please, could you explain why a wire cutter does not work for M&P ? I make cutters for New Zealand soap makers and I've not heard this before.

    Soap paper?

Thank you for your replies people. I thought it was something new but now it looks like it's been around for years. My soap cutters could cut very thin slices, but they would probably dry out in a matter of days and just crumble to pieces if you tried to use them. The idea is intriguing though!

    Soap paper?

Hi all. I'm not a soap maker, 'just make equipment for soapers in NZ. I've recently found this item on 'Wish' and wondering what exactly it is, my guess is a dissoluble rice paper impregnated with soap - doesn't seem likely it's actual (thin) slices of soap, they would fall to bits surely...

    Question about gel

I've also heard, in a different field altogether, that when pouring plastic into molds you can use a vacuum box to draw out the bubbles. (This was referring to the 2-part pourable plastic to embed items) I.e. the complete mold, filled with just poured plastic/soap, is placed in an air-tight...

    Question about gel

Long time lurker here, Bob from New Zealand. I don't make soap, but I do make wire soap cutters - this is the first time I've heard of a wire cutter having a 'downside'. I'm wondering if anyone has looked further into the problem, perhaps found out just how these air bubbles form and hopefully...
