How to Make Soap - Soapmaking Guide for Beginners

First, @Prysm, this is a fabulous guide for beginners! Second, I think there have been some great suggestions, so far. @Kristus_Apollo's suggestion of highlighting important information is fantastic! Safety can't be mentioned too much. I also love @Garden Gives Me Joy's suggestion of GIFs for...

    Just Pigments

I have not used any of the duo-chrome micas but every other mica I have used from Just Pigments behaved beautifully in CP soap. I have never had a problem with fading, bleeding, etc.

    NeoDefend

I don't have any knowledge about 2400 Silverion, but I am really liking what I just read about it! I had never even heard of it!

    NeoDefend

I have been using NeoDefend in my conditioners (for personal use) for years and have never had a problem. THAT BEING SAID, my knowledge of using preservatives in products has increased, albeit slightly, over the years. I have never tested the PH of my conditioners so I don't even know if...

    Hello from Colorado

@Zany_in_CO, I'm happy to shoot you my phone#/email to keep you updated on any gatherings. There is going to be one in Elizabeth on the 18th but I won't be able to make it, unfortunately. I'm sure they'd love to meet you if you'd still like to go!

    Hello from Colorado

Welcome @Chris Veer! Fellow Coloradoan here too! (Fort Collins) FYI, we have a small Colorado group on FB if you are interested in joining (same to you @paillo!). We try to have soaping get-togethers every once in a while, although the NE plains may be a little far to travel for...

What happens if we use soap without curing ?

Last year at the HSCG conference in Dallas, Kevin Dunn stated that CP soap is technically okay to use after it has completely saponified, typically a day or two. I don't remember the exact science he gave, (okay, his geeky science explanations went over my head) but as long as the soap was made...

Reasonably priced sources for jars / bottles / etc?

I haven't been successful finding a "one-stop" shop. I have to keep my pricing as low as possible for a particular customer so I usually have to buy lids in one place and jars in another. These are some of the places I have purchased from or looked into: SKS Burch Bottle & Packaging Container...

Hanger swirl tool - any DIY tools?

I love gear ties for smaller batches but they usually aren't sturdy enough for my longer soap molds. For those, I use one I made from an aluminum rod covered with plastic tubing.

Question- soap molds - pringle cans?

Also, I absolutely LOVE Pringles cans! They are the perfect size for my shaving and face soaps and I use them all the time. Everyone I know who eats Pringles knows to save me their cans. My kids' friends are goldmines for them! I also use mine unlined though I've always cut off the metal bottom...

Question- soap molds - pringle cans?

I have also found that freezing it for a little while sometimes helps it to unmold easier from the PVC. I've also followed Amanda Aaron's advice (Lovin' Soap) and dropped it on my cement patio a few times to help dislodge it. I have since purchased a custom made wooden "Soap Pusher" to push the...

    Browsing soap pics

I do see the skunk! I absolutely loved this soap which was actually made by Liz Locke for the Great Cakes Soap Challenge Club February 2017 CP + MP Designs Challenge. She did a fabulous job!

    MMS Coconut Cream FO

Thank you, Millie! I actually already read through that post (all 11 pages, lol!) but didn't see anything about that particular fo. I am about to use it in a pretty big batch but can't find a bit of information on it ANYWHERE! I've even emailed MMS - twice - but no response. It's for a family...

Anyone ever used the Coconut Cream FO from MMS? Does it discolor? Does it stick? TIA! :)

    Hello from Colorado

Yay! Another Colradoan! I'm in Colorado too, up north. Welcome to the the incredibly addicting world of soap making! The SMF is the most informative and helpful resource I have yet to find and I am so glad you found it too. I've only been soaping for about a year and a half but now that it is...

    Mouse Proofing Drying/Curing Rack

Thank you, Teresa and mzimm! We actually have some of that wire mesh stuff but I wasn't sure if the openings would be small enough. I am shocked at some of the microscopic places they have gotten into! I do think I have seen that cloth in 1/8" too so that might work. mzimm, although clearing...

    Mouse Proofing Drying/Curing Rack

I am in the process of creating my soaping room in a sectioned off area in our large barn (with cement floors), and will be building some drying/curing cabinets or racks. Of course, every attempt will be made to keep mice out of the room itself, but unfortunately, mice seem to be an inevitable...
