    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

RE: the ACV or CA rinse - whats the recommended dilution folks are finding best for this (my wife has long hair, a tad on the dense side, normal thickness) Also any best/easiest methodology? I made the mistake last yr of premixing a dilution rinse and as this was cold she understandably hated...

    Shampoo Bar - Thanks Lindy!!

Well I've read every page of this thread and thanks to all those that contributed to it. Read it all over as my wife had used a few commercially/or small artisan made shampoo bars but never gotten good results from them. Even the 'artisan' made ones were, with the gift of my relatively new...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

@Dahila, thanks for that - will look over the thread. As chance would have it I have several packets of CA in my cupboard. Well as you're a fellow Antipodean I can advise I'm pretty sure Coles still stocks Lard, but it's sold as solid cooking oil or something like that - IIRC I checked the...

    Noob questions

Congrats on your 1st batch! I'm only 2 ahead of you and mine looked a lot like yours, so suffice to say you seem destined for great things! :-P Tea tree oil is often used with lemongrass EO so I'd think lemon could be fine - however I've heard that Lemon EO often finds it hard to be...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

RESPONSE 3 of 3 (phew! ) p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; }a:link { } Again another excellent post (I really did get very lucky with such brilliant responses!) - your base formulation is very close to what I'm using and I think your end point about getting a base forumula...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; } RESPONSE 2 of 3 Hmlove, excellent post! Really great stuff in it. I should clarify by listing 3-4 butters I didn't mean to imply one would use them all in a given recipe rather than you could have used one of ANY of them - sorry for confusion...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

RESPONSE 1 of 3 p { margin-bottom: 0.25cm; line-height: 120%; } Wow, I post my lil thread up before I went to bed down under here last night and expecting a few responses I check and there's 3 pages full! And absolutely wonderful ones, so thank you everyone for your contribution and...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

@Seawolfe, thank you for your reply - you alluded to HP in your post, do you only HP or CP as well? I only ask as whilst I'm aware of the ability to essentially 'choose' your SF oil in HP it seems you really can't in CP. I take it you are definitely of the opinion that the exotics/butters etc...

    Lard, My New Best Friend

OP, congrats on a great soap. @grumpy_owl, well done for setting that vendor straight. I was perusing some boutique soaps today for ingredient ideas was somewhat annoyed to find that they had proudly labelled them as having NO NASTIES - which they stated as parabens, petrochemical by products...

Butters/Exotics/Additives in CP soap - what works vs what doesn't?

Hello All, My question pertains to what exotic oils/butters or additives may be added to CP soap to give the 'average user' (as I know it's very hard to generalise otherwise) an actual tangible and real improvement in the quality of the end soap produced. ***Full disclosure, I'm very new to...

    Lanolin: Wet-shaver-soapers, please help!

Well FWIW this is the best I could find: http://badgerandblade.com/vb/archive/index.php/t-261097.html Seems consensus is that it's definitely under 5% and likely under 1%. That said if you're very keen why not email the makers and ask - I'd tell a bit of a white lie saying you've been...

Stunning soap, I appreciate the simple, understated beauty of it looks fantastic without conveying the obvious significant efforts taken to realise it, of it so my congrats.

What is wrong with this shaving set up?

On this we agree 100%. I freely admit to judging a shaving soap on what exotics it had in it e.g shea, kokum, mango etc. In hindsight this may have been somewhat naive - though in theory they MAY provide some tangible benefit assuming that it's a superior shaving soap because it has, for example...

What is wrong with this shaving set up?

Honestly I'm pooped from dealing with a complete debacle in another thread but to answer this correctly I'd prolly end up being rather verbose. As you alluded to in your reply with shaving YMMV is a classic mantra - and even though I've a stack of soaps I've only tried a tiny % of the purported...

    Misc Newbie Questions/Reassurances sought ;-)

........... Thank you Dorymae, this is good to know - I'd not considered several of those but they're good idea for down the track if/when I get a couple of base formulations I'm happy with.

    Misc Newbie Questions/Reassurances sought ;-)

You're very welcome - FWIW I've a very similar mindset and could see myself going so far as to use an additive that colours the soap e.g red clay - however the additive would have to have a real and tangible benefit in the soap's usability to justify this. So a colourant just for aesthetics...

    Misc Newbie Questions/Reassurances sought ;-)

Thank you for your kind words however I didn't feel it was a particular success or overly aesthetically impressive. That said I'm reasonably sure it wasn't a failure - and given I had very entry level expectations for this debut I was fine to have achieved anything above a passing grade. In my...

    Misc Newbie Questions/Reassurances sought ;-)

Dahila, haha if you're calling that rather industrial looking thing beautiful I think you've being very kind. Reminds me of a particular Seinfeld episode where Elaine is gushing as a handsome Doctor calls her 'stunning' or similar - but then she sees him refer to a rather ugly baby by the same...

What is wrong with this shaving set up?

With all due respect and whilst the definition of 'best' varies thats not strictly true. Quite a lot of the what are regarded as the better/top overall shaving soaps are notoriously difficult to lather. 'Ease of lathering' is only one of perhaps a half dozen specific criteria that one could...

What is wrong with this shaving set up?

This is where, as you'd know yourself that even the BEST shaving soap isn't going to work very well if the lather is incorrectly built - and knowing how to load and lather with the right amount of water + soap is critical. Thats why I said there's too many variables in this at present - so...
