    What the heck?

I use a lot of matte oxide colors in my soaps with good results. The other day I bought a new color, (violet) and gave it a go. Good thing I tried it on a small batch first. For some reason, it colors the soap a really ugly shade of green/brown. Kinda like something one would find in a diaper. I...

    I am zapless,options?

I have been making soap for a while now, and have tried the zap test on different soaps and cannot seem to get any "zap". Did I spend too much time checking 9V batteries or is it the bad experience I had as a kid with a frozen steel pole and my tongue? Whats the next easiest way to insure soap...

    Castile soft and sweaty

Hi people. I have made many batches of Castile soap, as I have some customers who like it a lot, (not sure why), anyway this last batch is softer than usual, and quite sweaty. It actually has beads on top. I know 100% OO takes a while to harden up, but this batch even a whole day later is like...

    Salt in soap?

Was reading here about putting salt in soap. Is there a minimum or maximum amount one can add? Also, does any salt work and when do you add it in the process? I am also wondering how salt helps with the lather. As a Mainer with salt water running thru my veins, is the frothy foam I see from the...

    Blossom question

I had a huge amount of red bee balm growing down on the back 40, and it makes for a very refreshing tea which I drink all summer. The other day, I thought the petals, which are very soft and pleasant to look at would look great in a clear soap base, and maybe a spearmint scent. I tried every...

I am just getting to the point of selling my soaps and buy all my EO from the local health food store. My question is, how should I describe these natural oils? Are they "food grade"? therapeutic grade" ? what? I want to get it right. Thanks, Steve

    coffee grounds for mechanics soap

Was thinking of making some more soap for my greasy handed friends. Have been using a lot of CO, and a bit of lemon EO. Somebody here said coffee grounds make a good abrasive in the soap. How much of the coffee grounds should I use per pound of soap? Also, do you think 50% CO,is too much for...

    shaving soap,..clayless

So I took you guys advice and made up some simple, glycerin based (sfic) shaving soap and left out the clay. I'll be hornswoggled..........it works great. Better all around shave with both my straight and my Merker DE razors. Better foam, as close or closer shave, not as dry, and rinses better...
