Who here makes soaps fragrance-free, essential-oil free exclusively?

Not exclusively - but I make a “nothing added” soap, and a fragrance/colour free soap with oatmeal. Cure them separately and store them separately. Oatmeal is a reasonably good seller, but the plain one I probably sell one bar for every 15 of my other varieties.

Translucent and Opaque soap - how is it done?

I’ve made it a few times (or attempted to make it a few times), more as an experiment to satisfy my curiosity than anything else. I’m not sure I’d do it as a regular thing; nice lather, but not as nice as my regular CP, they sweated badly and dissolved very quickly. Also hard to cut nicely...

    Pussy Bath

Dean, sorry you didn’t get to keep the cat - or at least get a chance to find out if it’d work or not. On cats and baths, since you asked - mine loves water so much that he’s been known to try to get in the shower with me. As soon as he thinks someone is headed for the bathroom, he belts...

SMF October 2018 Challenge - Travel Soap!

Salted Fig, thank you for inviting me to upload mine despite being ineligible (and missing the challenge!) Very basic compared to many, but amazing how quickly I sell out of them. Each ‘curl’ lasts 1-2 washes depending how heavy people are on on their soap.

SMF October 2018 Challenge - Travel Soap!

Darn - I’ve been a member here for a few years, but because I’m a slack@#$& and forget which forums I’m a member of, I didn’t (still don’t) have enough posts to be eligible for the challenge. My travel soap is one of my best sellers ;) Winners efforts look awesome

    Vanilla

The only one I can get easily here is made for MP (http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/vanilla-colour-stabiliser.html) but does still do the trick for CP. Guessing for some of the 10-15% vanilla content FOs that are around it might not be so effective - but I don't mind the discolouration...

    Vanilla

I've had reasonable results using it in CP...still get some discolouration depending on the vanilla content (up to about 5% vanilla I've found it works really well) but regardless it's not as intense, and takes much longer to occur. I've still got some little chunks of vanilla scented soap that...

Peppermint, tea tree & eucalyptus ITP swirl

Lovely :) that sort of blend is one of my favourites too...reminds me of my garden :)

    Unofficial customers

Morpheus, you sound like me... I've been known to have every flat surface covered in racks... Dining room table (which rarely gets used), china cabinet, bookshelves ... think I need a new house just for crafting in :-P

What % of hard butters to oils in lotion recipe?

Preservative NB is Benzyl Alcohol, Glycerine, Benzoic Acid & Sorbic Acid... You'll still need to pH test to be able to use it though as its got quite a narrow range of activity. New12soap... I do agree on natural not always good vs synthetic not always bad (not knowing me, you've never seen...

What % of hard butters to oils in lotion recipe?

I use either veg-emulse or olivem 1000 as an emulsifier as I try to use natural products as far as possible (though the latter can be a wee bit temperamental...the instructions I got with the olivem suggested using at 3-5% for a lotion, but I find I need to use it at around 6-8% and also be very...

    New Mold - just poured!

Beautiful...can just imagine the scent too. I'm not a huge fan of scented soaps (gasp) ... but a nice citrus always goes down well :)

    need dog soap recipe,

That's fair enough... But having said that, I am a qualified vet (am not working in practice as I developed a neurological disease several years ago and then as a "bonus" fractured my spine three years ago but I still maintain close links with a good number of former teachers, mentors and...

    need dog soap recipe,

I don't do anything to alter the soap pH... Bearing in mind I'm just using strips, and obviously water interferes with the reading too - the soap once lathered with water has a pH of approx 7. Which I figure works quite well as the normal dog pH skin range is usually regarded as something like...

    need dog soap recipe,

Agree on the CO & EOs Dahlia. I do make a dog soap bar (developed it initially - and have used it with good success on my bullmastiff x who has severe allergies) - has also been tested by a good number of others with all sorts of and even some of my vet friends at our local clinic have been...

    need dog soap recipe,

Although testing on yourself first is fine - and I'd certainly recommend it before you test on your own or anybody else's pooch - if you intend selling a dog soap/shampoo you need to test it thoroughly (through family and friends is probably your best bet) BEFORE you sell to the general public...

Opinions on Recipes for Goat's Milk Soap

Lucky, are you just making for personal use? If so - am happy to share my goat milk recipe if you would like it

15% sf still drying out my skin!

I have very sensitive skin too.. I'd never go as high as 20% CO in soaps I make for my own use - and rarely in any of my recipes as I personally find it very drying even as a bath bar, never mind on my face. More expensive - but I like to use a bit of cocoa butter and play around with oils...

Beet powder for coloring Cold Process Soap

What Ellacho & Sonya said... Aussie Soap Supplies has a nice guide (with pictures) on using natural colourants in CP soap :) ... http://www.aussiesoapsupplies.com.au/natural-soap-colours-in-cp.html Beet does work quite nicely in lip balm though

    weather proof lip balm labels?

Gaerwen, I print using a laser printer onto plastic labels (can't recall the brand, but I'll check). Not sure where you are (I'm in Australia) - but I found there were a few label companies more than happy to send me some free samples (just a sheet or two) of their products to try out first - so...
