    Castile Soap Turned Out Crumbly

Definitely rebatch! That's all part of the fun. My guess is also that you overcooked it and evaporated too much water. Rebatching can be strange and unpredictable from my experience and the water and soap might not want to mix at the start, but if you keep stirring them together as it cooks...

    100% coconut laundry bar weirdness

Something Like this happened to me when I made shaving soap once. For me, it was an overcook. I basically boiled too much water out of the soap and large parts of it went clear and rubbery. They whiter patches, I think have a higher water concentration and look and feel more like soap, whereas...

What is turning my soap pink

Thinking about it, each of these oils came from a different supplier. lemongrass from NDA, peppermint from canwax and rosemary from saffire blue. I've made a batch of this soap a few months ago(sold out now) but found a scrap of it on my shelf. It was plain old white where it was supposed to...

What is turning my soap pink

That was my thought. I use lemongrass in a lemon soap that I have, but it's coloured yellow, so if there is a change, it's not noticeable. The only other soap I use rosemary in also has lemongrass and It also turned a slight pink shade(but that was fine, because I like that). Hoping to hear...

What is turning my soap pink

Recently made of batch of rosemary lemon and the white part turned rather pink as it cured. This had happened in the past, but not to this degree. See here -> http://imgur.com/C12HIvZ Recipe: Olive oil, Palm Oil, Coconut Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Shea Butter, Castor Oil Lemon grass EO, Rosemary EO...

Need a good scent/blend for body butter

Alright, I set out each of the bottles from the suggestions and had a toothpick from each. I started with the combos that were mentioned, then started blending. I settled on a blend of lemon grass/cedar with a touch of anise and lavender. It's quite nice and is now in body butter form...

Need a good scent/blend for body butter

Hmmm. many good ideas. I'll be getting my paper towels and toothpicks out this weekend to test a few things out :) Thanks for the input. Lemongrass and cedar wood sounds intriguing. not_ally, I'm going to have to check that link later. It's forcing me to sign up and I don't have the time at...

Need a good scent/blend for body butter

I have a few body butter scents I'm trying out and only use essential oils. A citrus blend (all skin safe oils), a peppermint eucalyptus, a vanilla, a lavender. What might a popular and eye catching blend be? I make my own labels and do the art myself (hence the eye catching) For now, I will...

    Thinking about a dish soap...

I guess I'll look into some liquid soap. Haven't even checked in that forum section. I guess my intuitions were correct, there's a reason bar soap isn't widely used in dish cleaning endeavours. I'll also need to add that citric information to my spreadsheet. Good stuff. Thanks everyone.

    Thinking about a dish soap...

Thanks for the feedback, I think I have some citric kicking around. How will that affect the superfat? in a tester batch I can't be very precise. I'm literally looking at making a single puck of this right now. Looking ahead, if I calc to a 0-0.25% superfat, won't adding citric to the mix...

    Thinking about a dish soap...

I've never used a CP soap for my dishes, and am beginning to wonder why. Before I go crazy and start experimenting, I want to get an idea of where I should begin. I've done some reading and found very little on Bar soap for dishes. This leads me to believe that it is neither a desirable or...

    Canadian suppliers. . . .

Without reading the whole thread I just thought I'd chime in. To keep on top of my costs I made an excel spread sheet with every single ingredient I have purchased priced out at $/ounce. I factor in tax, then divide $ by mass/volume. I eat the shipping cost(and shouldn't, but we are small...

    Cilantro Lime avocado soap?

I've found this type of oil a few places, though this was the only site that described the aroma clearly. They actually specify between cilantro leaf and coriander seed, so that's something. Still, the price! https://silkyscents.com/cilantro.htm Yet they state this "the difference is that...

    Cilantro Lime avocado soap?

Vkumudini, the avocado is only detectable by sight. It turns the soap ugly brown for a bit, then it fades to a lighter brownish colour, which I've mellowed with green. I'll think I'll do some paper towel tests with lime and a few of my fresher scents. not_ally, I held off getting Litsea...

    Cilantro Lime avocado soap?

not_ally, I thought the coriander stuff would smell more like coriander seed (orange fruit loops) and you seem to confirm this. I'm wondering if I could infuse the avocado oil in the recipe with cilantro leaves, would that take the scent? The problem is that last frost date is still 6 weeks...

    Cilantro Lime avocado soap?

Okay, I make an avocado soap that I enjoy quite a bit. It has avocado flesh in the recipe and is made with avocado oil. This soap is one of the unscented varieties we make, but I feel like I could bring it to the next level with some scent. My inclination is cilatro lime, (guacamole anyone?)...

    Single oil bar test

Great experiment. I can't wait to see the results. Be sure to get a picture of all the soaps when they are taken out of the molds, too. I don't think being a few days off on timing will make a difference, especially after you hot the 4+ week mark, as you say. I know it can be annoying...

    Formulating a Mechanic Soap

Looks like I might be jumping on the 20% SF team. It sounds promising. I might try soaking my pumice in D-limonene and adding it all at trace.

    Formulating a Mechanic Soap

That would be awesome Obsidian, I was thinking of making some one ounce pucks to compare between the two, but you might be able to save me some time. Like... weeks. :P
