    Ebru Technique Soap Challenge

It's probably just as well that I didn't get to mine in time - there are some gorgeous ones entered! I had such a hard time casting my votes! This was going to be my first challenge, but life got in the way. I'm looking forward to the next challenge, though :)

    Ebru Technique Soap Challenge

By the way, I'm thinking of trying the challenge as a Castile instead of her Bastile. I'm planning an undoubtedly too-intricate design, so I want to make sure I have plenty of time, plus I think that a Castile would be fun to try as I've never done one before. I'm going to do a full slab design...

    Ebru Technique Soap Challenge

Julie, I found an Ebru tree that I'm using as my inspiration. I'm not copying it, but I am using it to fuel my creation, in a manner of speaking. I don't know if my tree will come out as nice as yours :) but I thought you should know that just because you didn't use a specific piece of Ebru art...

Fragrances you just cannot stand..whats yours?

Mark another patchouli hater down. I think it might have something to do with hanging out in a house full of patchouli incense and getting quite sick (for other reasons ) when I was a teenager. Now, every time I smell it I feel slightly ill.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I just cut my not-as-intended soap. It wasn't what I was going for, but it doesn't look bad. The purple layers didn't spread out at all since I had to stir that one longer to mix the mica, but it's kind of a cool look.

What soapy thing have you done today?

I finally got my sodium citrate (we have hard water at the new house), and DH is out of town until tomorrow, so I whipped up a relatively large batch for me. Unfortunately, I ended up mixing so much to get the micas mixed that I didn't get the pour I was looking for. It might end up looking...

Different Recipes in Soaps for Sale

Do you have any problems with customer expectations when they buy different bars?

Different Recipes in Soaps for Sale

We're finally moved into our new place (though still working on a barn for our beasts out back), and I'm ready to make some more soap! My goal is to have some soaps for sale on a small basis by late fall/early winter. I have a few recipes I'm very happy with and that have aged well so far. My...

    My soap experiments so far

Your organization and productivity put me to shame! Thank you for inspiring me to actually unpack my soaping supplies and try to get my soap room organized today :)

    Authentic New York City Bagels

I miss NYC bagels so much. I went to Columbia for undergrad, and when I moved back to the South I was appalled by what passed for a "bagel" here. I'd love the recipe and procedure.

Brambleberry tall skinny wooden mold on sale

Why did you have to post that?!? I really want one, but we're in the process of moving, so soaping funds are minimal at best. I hope they put it on sale again when I have money again

So I was running out of groceries

Please don't judge GM from anything store bought. Fresh goat milk tastes very similar to cow's milk except somewhat sweeter and creamier (especially the milk from our mini Nubian). I did use some of my tallow to saute some veggies recently. It was quite delicious :)

    Raw Milk in Lotion

I want to make lotion with some of my goat milk, but as I look as recipes and such I see that they all seem to call for pasteurized milk. The issue is that I don't pasteurize my milk since 1) I prefer to drink raw milk and 2) stove-top pasteurizing is a total pain. Right now I don't have any...

    Nurture's next sale, 45% off!

Carrie, I understand it wasn't your fault, but it does make it difficult for people, especially those who aren't as familiar with your products. As a new soap maker who is new to your site, I'll purchase from you, but only because I've heard such good things from people on this forum. I hope...

    Nurture's next sale, 45% off!

I was trying to place my order via by smart phone, but I kept getting error messages. Now I'm home and on my computer and I can't get the site anymore. I appreciate that she was trying to save money to keep prices low, but I'm afraid this is going to hurt business for her. I was really looking...

    Too Much Cinnamon?

That was somewhat my feeling about giving it away since I certainly don't want anyone to have a bad reaction to my soap. I might experiment more with it myself, but I'll likely just use it as a winter body soap. That's good to know about paprika. I'll have to try that next time.

    Too Much Cinnamon?

I made a CP soap about a month ago and decided to try a natural colorant. I went with cinnamon since I had it on hand. Unfortunately, tsp and tbsp are very close in spelling, but not in measurements. So I used far too much cinnamon in half of my bar. I just used one and I actually love the...

What soapy thing have you done today?

I was planning on rendering some more tallow while studying for the bar, but my husband took me to the zoo and out for lunch instead. Much more fun than studying, but that has to happen eventually too. Hopefully, I'll get both accomplished tomorrow.

    What sells best?

I don't sell soap yet, but I've bought a LOT of it. For me, smell definitely sells a bar, but a well-formulated soap will keep me coming back for more. Beyond that, I think you'll have to figure out your target market and what you like making. I think there's a market for just about every type...
