    Oil Ooze?

Yes, love this scent. It is the first time I ever used it and I will definitely be using it again. Yesterday I soaped with BB "Ginger Ale". It is fantastic too. Am making more of it today.

    Oil Ooze?

My soap has been setting now for a few days and the oil I was concerned about has re absorbed as suggested it would. I have learned something new and will not worry about it so much if it happens again. Also as suggested I stirred the fragrance oil into the oils real well before adding the...

    Oil Ooze?

The color is "Hollywood Pink Mica" at Nurture Soap Supplies. I did hand stir the FO. Now that the FO is mentioned I think it is very possible I did not mix it in well enough.

    Oil Ooze?

This is the soap and formula I made two days ago. The mold was removed after 24 hours and I cut it today, 24 hours after removing from mold. I have used this formula many times without having this happen. I don't know what I might have done wrong. I am thinking could I have had a false trace...

    First time dealing with DOS

After curing I like to store in sport card boxes. Definitely store in something that is not considered air tight. If humidity is a big problem store where you have an air conditioner running it a circulating fan at least. Also if you are not using EDTA, give it a try in your formulas.

    Another question about Lye amount

I have started using 38% lye concentration. So far this is working well for me. Would this be considered too high for most? I do not normally gel soap. I use what I think is a balanced formula (32 % palm, coconut, and Olive, 4 % castor).

    Curing before boxing

I normally cure my soap for a full 3 months storing in sport card boxes. However I am out of space on my rack and wonder how many weeks I can safely go before boxing. Can you share your ideas on this please.

    Problem with Lye

I have since asking my question covered the mixed lye solution while waiting for the temp to drop. It worked - no soda ash! I also have since let the soda ash develop, did not strain and the soap came out just fine.

    Problem with Lye

Obsidian, thanks for the advise. I have tried o stir it back in but it does no dissolve. I am making soap again tomorrow and will cover it as you suggest.

    Problem with Lye

Suddenly I am having a problem with dissolving my lye. When I first mix it everything goes well. The lye appears to be clear and completely dissolved. After having it set aside for cooling it developed a crystal-like film on the top of the solution. When I stir it up the film breaks up into what...

    Palm Oil Question

Thank you for the input. I emailed supplier as Obsidian suggested and now know hat their 50 pound block is "no stir". All other sizes must be melted and stirred. 50 pounds of Palm oil is a lot for me, however I am seriously considering the possibility. Again, thank yo all for your input.

    Palm Oil Question

I have been using Bulk Apothecary for Palm Oil ever since I began Soaping four years ago. I have been very satisfied with this product. However, I always open the palm oil bucket and melt all 7lbs., stir well, and put it in separate small containers for individual batches. I have followed this...

    High Oliec Cannola Oil

I have read on this forum that Cannola oil can contribute to DOS. I assume that does not however hold true for high oleochemicals Cannola oil. Is this assumption correct? I saw a great price at GFS (restaurant food supplier) on high oleic Cannola oil and would like to substitute olive oil for...

    Storing Master Batches

The thought of using yogurt containers to mix or master batch lye makes me very nervous. It is just too flimsy. There are so many other better containers to use. A lye burn is a serious matter. Better to be safe than sorry. The only thing I will use a small yogurt container for is to mix...

    Nature's Oil Fragrance Oil Question

Artemis, it has taken me a few weeks to get my test batch made and photographed. Thanks to your input on the scent I was able to have some success. I soaped with full water, high lard ratio, and low temps for both oil and lard solution and I did not stick blend. I only used my wish. Before...

    Storing Cured Soap

My habit is to cure my cut soap on open shelving for 12 weeks, then put them in sports card boxes for long term storage. They are usually stored no more than one year in the boxes. Currently I have plenty of shelf room on my curing rack and I wonder if it would benefit the soap to keep it out...
