    Psoriasis and coconut oil allergy

Exactly. Allergies are usually to proteins, and although it's possible to be allergic to the component listed, it's highly unlikely due to the size, being a lipid, being chemically modified, etc.

    Black sugar soap

I *think* the black sugar is just very unrefined cane sugar. Even modestly purified sugarcane wax is very, very dark brown (black), though if you get it highly purified, it's dark amber, so that would make some sense. http://www.deurex.com/en/?id=323 Sugarcane wax is used in some cosmetics...

    Psoriasis and coconut oil allergy

There is a fantastic shampoo for people with psoriasis called Nizoral, which you can get a prescription for from your doctor/dermatologist. It is pretty stripping, but you only need to use it occasionally, and you can use a good conditioner after. It really works well for moderate to severe...

    Kirkland EVO

While I think you are correct about the inclination to be deceptive, there is no doubt that folks today have it down to an art and science, and have the means and scope to be more deceptive about many more things for much less of a reason than ever in human history. And it happens all day, every...

    Deer tallow

Hey Anita, how is the bison tallow in soap? Does it compare favorably with beef or lard? I actually was really interested because I have a local source, but I haven't gotten to try it yet.

    Stains on counter

*grins* Oxyclean and bleach have similar abilities to break the carbon rings that make up the colors. The problem, formica is aslo made of organic molecules that are attacked by the activated oxygen (oxy is activated oxygen alone,a nd bleach is oxygen and chlorine together). The upsides to...

    Stains on counter

If the dyes are organic (like food colors, or micas colored with them), then bleach or oxy cleaners will work on eliminating the color. Oxides should respond to mild organic acids like vinegar. For very hydrophobic (fat soluble dyes), try GooGone or cooking oil. Another thought is that after you...

Nut oil in soap and nut allergies?

Peanut and tree nut are some of the most allergenic substances that exist, and even amounts so small that that you wouldn't believe could be lethal (and you can be allergic to one, several related, or all of the tree nuts - sometimes plus mango, which is a close cousin to cashew). Quite...

SFIC is discontinuing all soap bases with soy & using oat protein instead?

Thanks for being cordial - and I don't write if I'm not sure what I'm writing about is 100% correct. I think we misinterpret each other's tone. And I am a science person that is most definitely immersed in the situation you mention, at one of the top medicals centers in the world. I do medial...

SFIC is discontinuing all soap bases with soy & using oat protein instead?

There sure are. Some are even snippy with people all the time because they have trouble with people that actually know more than they do. Of course, there are a lot of other nice people like to provide useful information that might save folks a LOT of agony and effort when it's not necessary...

SFIC is discontinuing all soap bases with soy & using oat protein instead?

Um, you have to eat the gluten to have an effect with celiacs - it's an autoimmune intolerance disease of the gut lining. It's extremely unlikely that you are 'allergic' to the gluten in any application outside eating it. You should check with your allergist before hunting for alternatives...

Great News and a soaping idea

I'm so happy that I can eat my 72% Ghiradelli without a bit of guilt. :D

Great News and a soaping idea

Better yet, 3 oz of dark chocolate (70% or higher) a day will reduce the chance of heart attack and stroke, particularly in men over 45 by a large percentage (varies by group and risk category). Yes, seriously.

Get off my a$$ about lard!

Thanks! :D I see you use 5% sunflower, and I've seen a few pros do that as well. What do you experience as the benefit/additional qualities of adding it? We have a local, small batch maker nearby, and I'd love to use them (especially in small percentages because, as always, small batch is more...

Get off my a$$ about lard!

Thanks! This looks awesome, and I'm going to try exactly that ASAP. I love your idea to do a lard/tallow blend as well, so I'm adding that to my test list. :D

Get off my a$$ about lard!

So, what is your favorite lard soap formula? I'm going to try my first one soon, so I'd love a good starting point. :D

Get off my a$$ about lard!

I haven't ever been rude to anyone on this board from my end, and I'm always polite. I actually was just curious as to whether you actually said what you mean (because many people don't when they say things in passing). I certainly did not intend to be rude or make you feel uncomfortable in my...

Get off my a$$ about lard!

Not so much anymore. they'd accurate modeled and *predicted* storms exactly like Hurricane Sandy seven ears earlier using models for the changes they were seeing for that window in time. Is it easy? Nope. But we have satellites now that track the temperature of every square meter of the surface...

Get off my a$$ about lard!

It's actually rare for scientists to be on media at all, so mostly it's the press getting is wrong. When scientists get is wrong, that's published in the same journals - you know, in print. There really isn't much science each year that they that's wrong due to peer-review (and that's assessed...

Get off my a$$ about lard!

I'm curious if you feel the meterological science that was done 40+ year ago before there were really computers more powerful than a Commodore 64 compares to the staggering advances in understanding and the use of supercomputers now? Science always makes the best estimation of the data at the...
