    High lard soap - scent

The passage of time will remove the scent. I made 100% lard once, stirred it for hours by hand with my face over the pot and I got sensitized to the smell. The soap seems to reek of lard for months. Then it was really nice soap. Write the date on it and stick in the back of your storage and...

    whitening soap recipe needed

A much nicer thing, IMO, to use dried flowers or other items with soap is to leave them out of the soap, then when you wrap the bars, include the dried flowers on the wrapping. I dry flowers from my garden then hot-glue the entire flower on the package. It's beautiful, and you don't have junk...

    WTH is wrong with this?

I think I may have soap out of this now. My brother is here, too; he put me in touch with his buddy's wife who makes "a lot" of soap. She had the kindness and patience to walk me through hot-process fixing it. It's real ugly but it doesn't zap and it makes a nice smooth lather already. I...

    Soap breaking and crumbling,please help!

Things that have changed that might affect the soap : - season? - moisture content of the air due to the A/C or heating system. - air temp. - altitude! Did you move to a different altitude? When I moved to the mountains, everything got different.

    WTH is wrong with this?

--> "The lye is a lie!" i crack myself up. I've never seen discolored lumps in lye, either. They were like pieces of dirt with the lie clumped to it; I didn;t examine them closely, because it's ... you know.. lye. I took them out with a spoon. -+-- So this is what i did: The lye h2o solution...

    WTH is wrong with this?

I've been at my Mom's all summer and haven't been soaping at all up here. I got some lye (rooto 100% lye drain opener from the hardware store), lard, CO (crisco organic brand) and some OO. 65% Lard, 15% CO and 20% OO, lye wt from soapcalc. No color, fragrance, or other additives...

    Favourite soap size

I like shorter thicker chunky soap. something like 2x2x1.5 It's easier to hold; and as it gets used up it stays a good shape. 'regular' bars get too thin very fast.

Well, Dee, that sounds like me. But no, it's someone pretending to be me. Don;t tell me she's a skier.

Dee, I don't remember Knitting Paradise, unless it was that dream I had. Where is it? I could have just forgot if it's been a while.

    New yarn arrived!

A-Ha, Teresa! I thought I recognized that yarn, it's City Tweed, isn't it? Those socks are beautiful BTW. I knit a lot of socks. I ski, and the socks I make for myself work best for skiing. No one sees them inside those ski boots!

    Daylily for natural yellow?

Almost everything turns brown when the lye gets to it. Try putting the color into the lye before making the soap and see what happens. Then you can decide to use it or not.

    Where to buy lard

I tried looking for lard at whole foods. I asked a worker about it and she got really snooty. "We don't carry lard, how about vegetable oil?" she whined, as she looked down her nose at me and walked off disgusted. I guess lard is too inexpensive for whole foods to sell. If they can't...

    Felted soap stinks ! :-p

Wet wool is wet animal hair. It's gonna smell when it's wet unless it's extremely processed. Even your hand washed wool sweaters have that smell. Also, it will likely make your skin itch so be careful where you use it.

What's your favorite scrubby ingredient? Least?

Fine pumice has a very nice feel, sort of like suede. Grind the heck out of your oatmeal, or it may get as sharp as razor blades.

    Soap You Hate

Yes, you should worry about how the fragrance you are wearing smells to others... I come across people wearing something that is clearly an applied fragrance, but it smells really bad to me. (ew, did they MEAN to do that?, *step away slowly*.) Even more people put it theirs on way too strong...
