hmlove, I made a batch in July. Hardly any lather to speak of after a six month cure, but it seems to be very gentle soap, not slimy in the least. Very hard, white bars (I used evoo we had in the cupboard).

I made a 61% lard, 12% tallow, 12% CO, 10% Castor oil, 5% OO. I chose those proportions based on the remaining amount of tallow in the fridge :) Made a nice, hard, creamy, mild bar (52 conditioning, 9 cleansing on soapcalc). Used Biscayne Bay water instead of distilled water, and maybe that...

As a wet shaving soap-hacker, I'll add my voice of assent to Lee and TEG when it comes to shaving soap vs bath soap. As an aside, my recipe has a similar fat profile to Lee's and it works extremely well as shaving soap.

Do my eyes deceive or do I read that he shaved with the salt bar and liked it? Mind sharing the recipe? :-)

I meant in place of tallow in shaving soap. I have no particular proportion in mind, yet. I've accumulated bacon drippings in a coffee can in the fridge and the coffee can is full. I plan to render the gunk out of the drippings and use the remaining lard.

It surely is, especially if you sell your soap and need large quantities. As a pure hobbyist, part of the fun for me is rendering tallow from the free beef trimmings my local grocer graciously provides from time to time :thumbup:
