    DIY Soap Tools

Anybody ever use pallet wood for making molds? Not as nice as the craft wood, but I have a basically unlimited free supply of brand new pallets right across town from where I live. Worst case scenario if they won't work for soap molds I just make soap dishes outta them

    DIY Soap Tools

I was thinking of using corrosion and rust-resistant guitar strings. Elixir has really good ones that I've used on my acoustic guitars for years and never even had so much as a discoloration in the strings. Also, I was planning on using guitar machine heads(tuning pegs) to tension the wires. I...

    People scare me!!

As far as the whole labeling thing goes, at least in the US, the only legal requirements for true soap are that yes, you must have a label and that label must at least contain 3 things: 1)It must identify the product as soap. You must actually use the word "soap". Bath bar, beauty bar, etc will...

    People scare me!!

Personally, I don't find the people who undercut the price of their products to be an issue for me. The way I figure it, they're able to go so low on their prices for one of two reasons. 1)They use cheap and/or substandard ingredients. I've made some batches for use at home with the cheap stuff...

    DIY Soap Tools

I'm used to hearing the off-color remarks. Most of my employees at work are in their late teens and early twenties so I usually can't get through a while day without hearing "That's what she said". Lol

The thought about the G string crossed my mind too, lol! I was thinking about integrating a beveler into the loaf cutter. I also had an urge to make a "manly" soap cutter with flames painted on it and skull heads for the tuning keys, lol! I get all these ideas but fining the time to do them is...

    People scare me!!

That's weird. Those last two quoted posts were labeled as mine bit they weren't from me, lol! Maybe there's a gremlin in the system as I've been experiencing some weird bugs with the SMF app.

    DIY Soap Tools

I usually make all my own equipment for soap making whenever possible as it tends to save me a good deal of money and honestly I just like building things. I'm working on building a soap loaf cutter as well as a planer/beveler. I had a couple quick questions for those of you who also make your...

    People scare me!!

Personally, I have only been selling for a short while. Before that, I did it strictly for fun and making money from it was never the intention. I just liked giving my soap to friends and family and getting feedback so I could tweak them and make them better. People kept asking me if they could...

To Superfat Or Not to Superfat...That Is the Question

The lavender scent that I mentioned isn't really a true-to-life lavender scent, but it is very clean and nice. If you are looking for a lavender scent that smells just like the flower, that same company carries one. They also have a very true-to-life hyacinth FO as well.

To Superfat Or Not to Superfat...That Is the Question

Juniper Aloe from Elements Bath & Body is a nice, clean scent. Scent projects well in the finished product, even after a long cure. Manuka Lavender Body Wrap, Country Clothesline, and Rosemary Mint, also from EBB, are clean smelling and have a nice strong throw in cp soap. These FO's are also...

    Weird Batch

Good point about it being in-between two other soaps. I hadn't even considered that. I really do need to get around to making some 1 pound loaf molds for small or test batches.

To Superfat Or Not to Superfat...That Is the Question

Your recipe is almost the same as mine, only a small difference in the % of OO & CO. Great minds think alike right? When I use shea butter I get the unrefined stuff as well. I've read a few places that the refining process destroys some of the beneficial qualities in it. I don't know if that's...

    Weird Batch

Yes, the only difference between them was the fragrance. I made one master batch of unscented soap and then divided it into four parts and fragranced each one separately. I've had fragrances that promoted gel before, but never came across one that inhibited it. I'm really now very curious to see...

    Soap Mold Ideas

@Dorymae That's a good idea, and a lot less money and work than trying to build a mold with an integrated gas or water cooling system, lol! I do have to say though that it would be kind of cool to be able to build an over-the-top mold with a built-in commercial grade refrigerant system. Might be...
